One of the main goals of Spanish Young Generation (JJNN) is to spread knowledge about nuclear energy, not only pointing out its advantages and its role in our society, but also trying to correct some of the ideas that are due to the biased information and to the lack of knowledge. With this goal in mind, lectures were given in several high schools, aimed at students ranging from 14 to 18 years old. This paper explains the experience accumulated during those talks and the conclusions that can be drawn, so as to better focus the communication about nuclear energy, especially the one aimed at a young public. In order to evaluate the degree of knowledge and information on a specific topic of a given group of individuals, statistical methods must be used. At the beginning of each lecture (and sometimes at the end, in order to evaluate the impact of the talk) the students were submitted to a short survey conducted by Spanish Young Generation. It consisted in eight questions, dealing with the relation between the main environmental issues (global warming, acid rain, radioactive waste…) and nuclear energy. The answers can be surprising, especially for professionals of the nuclear field who, since they are so familiar with this topic, often forget that this is just the case of a minority of people. A better knowledge of the degree of information of a given group enables to focus and personalize the communication. Another communication tool is the direct contact with students: it starts with their questions, which can then lead to a small debate. If the surveys inform about the topics they are unaware of, the direct exchange with them enables to find the most effective way to provide them the information. Of course, it depends a lot on the public attending the talk (age, background…) and on the debate following the talk: a good communication, adapted to the public, is necessary. Therefore, the outcome of the performed exercise is that Spanish teenagers have still a lack of knowledge about nuclear energy. We can learn that items that are evident for nuclear young professionals are unknown for high school teenagers

This paper aims to analyse the use of anabolic drugs among Greek students participating in school championships of physical education (PE). In order to do it, a survey was conducted during the 2008 to 2009 academic year in suburban, urban and metropolitan areas in Greece. The sample was 2,535 high school students from the 10 to 12th grade, participating in the school physical education championships. The results showed that 9.6% of boys and 3.7% of girls reported that they had used anabolic drugs sometime in the past whereas 11.2% boys and 4.8% girls reported that they would intend to use them in the future. This confirms that anabolic steroids are an important problem among adolescents, and educational programs should increase their knowledge about these drugs. Information should come not only from the state, but also from coaches, teachers, trainers and parents.

Incoming students in the University have education deficiencies, so universities studies require a sound basis of scientific knowledge. In this project are analysed instruments to reinforcing knowledge in those areas related to the studies that students are about to embark on public Spanish universities. There are important differences among universities and, in each university there are great differences among titles. Initial courses (cursos cero) are widespread (in 50% of universities) that selfevaluation instruments (14 % of universities). It is necessary to improve diffusion of those instruments because it is not possible to evaluate them. So are proposed the next actuations: to make regular standard surveys for professors and students; to publish results of surveys; public universities should institutionalize their basic training offer and improve the dissemination of this offer especially through the web. This paper presents a questionnaire to assess student opinion about these tools. To analyze the effectiveness, and make an initial estimate of the evaluation of these tools, we conducted a pilot test of the questionnaire with 68 students at the University of Extremadura. The results of preliminary statistical analysis conducted on the pilot test indicate that the survey results are reliable. A global evaluation of both tools, with a scale of 1 to 5, gave an average score of 3.29 for initial courses and 3.41 for selfevaluation. The 72.9% of the students consider the "self assessment" more effective than the "initial course"

The global Hands-on Universe association is producing and distributing free resources world- wide to implement Inquire Based Scienti?c Education (IBSE) at secondary and high school levels. The materials are inspired in astronomical research and space exploration. The association is implementing the Galileo Teacher Training Program world-wide. In this contribution, a summary on the most recent resources being implemented by HOU-Espa~na and developed with Spanish participation is presented.

Este trabajo describe el diseño y la implementación de un ejercicio virtual que es parte de una práctica que se realiza en un laboratorio virtual de biotecnología, la adaptación de la misma para que alumnos de secundaria la puedan realizar y por último, la adaptación del laboratorio a un entorno multilingüe. La práctica consiste en transformar genéticamente un árbol (chopo) para dotarlo de una mayor resistencia a enfermedades, especialmente las producidas por hongos y más en concreto, el ejercicio o fase de la práctica a desarrollar consiste en introducir en el plásmido un gen amplificado por la PCR obtenido en la fase anterior de la práctica virtual. La adaptación para alumnos de secundaria servirá para fomentar el interés de estos alumnos por la biotecnología. Asimismo, la adaptación a un entorno multilingüe permitirá que varios alumnos de distintos idiomas realicen la práctica de forma simultánea. Como parte de este trabajo, se ha realizado un análisis sobre OpenSimulator, que es la herramienta utilizada para la creación del entorno virtual, así como de sus visores gráficos para visitar y desarrollar el mundo virtual. Debido a que este proyecto toma como punto de partida un laboratorio virtual con una parte de la práctica virtual ya desarrollada, se ha incluido una descripción de dicho laboratorio para comprender mejor el trabajo que se ha realizado en este proyecto. Finalmente, en este trabajo se presentan los modelos y especificaciones para la extensión del laboratorio virtual. ---ABSTRACT---This document describes the design and implementation of virtual exercise that is part of a practice that is performed in a virtual biotechnology laboratory, the adaptation of this phase to high-school students and finally, the adaptation of laboratory for a multilingual environment. In this practice a tree is genetically modified to give it resistance to diseases produced by fungi. Specifically, the exercise or phase developed consists in introducing in the plasmid a gene amplified by PCR in the previous phase. The adaptation for high-school students will motivate to new students about biotechnology. And the adapting to the multilingual environment will allow several students, such as Erasmus, to do the practice in different languages simultaneously. We analyzed the OpenSimulator platform and the graphic viewers to visit and develop the virtual world. This tool is used for creating the virtual environment. Because of the fact that the project takes a starting point a laboratory with some parts already developed, we have included a description with information related to the laboratory to better understand the work carried out in this project. Finally, this document presents the models and specifications for the extension of the virtual laboratory.

Este trabajo contiene el diseño y análisis de dos modalidades de docencia de programación de aplicaciones móviles, con el objetivo de aumentar el interés de los estudiantes de enseñanza secundaria por la Ingeniería Informática. Primeramente se analizó la estructura y el contenido de las diferentes materias relacionadas con la informática que existen actualmente en la educación secundaria en España, con el fin de localizar las carencias del currículo. Estas carencias principales son: la falta de reconocimiento de la Ingeniería informática al mismo nivel que el resto de ingenierías y una falta de contenidos relacionados con el desarrollo de software, tanto a nivel de programación como de diseño. A continuación, una vez analizados diferentes posibilidades de entornos con los que desarrollar dichos cursos, se diseñaron los dos modelos de docencia utilizando App Inventor como herramienta conductora, con los que poder cubrir esos conocimientos. El primer modelo consiste en un curso de cuatro semanas a impartir directamente en el centro, mientras que el segundo se trata de un taller de una mañana a impartir en la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Informáticos de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. De los resultados de esos modelos se han obtenidos resultados muy positivos en cuanto al incremento de los conocimientos de los alumnos sobre informática, además de aumentar su interés por la Ingeniería Informática y obtener una visión más ajustada a la realidad de la misma.---ABSTRACT---This work details the design and realization of a workshop and a course for teaching mobile application programming to Spanish high school students, with the aim of increasing their interest in Computing. In order to locate the shortcomings of the curriculum, the structure and contents of various subjects related to Computing in currently secondary education in Spain were analyzed. The results show a lack of recognition of computer engineering at the same level as the rest of engineering disciplines and a lack of content related to software development, both in terms of programming and design. Then, after analyzing existing programming environments available for covering the basic programming objectives, App Inventor was chosen as mobile programming environment for both teaching activities (the workshop and the course). The first activity consists of a four-week course to teach directly in the high school, while the second one is a 4-hour workshop to be held at the university. The workshop and the course were carried out with students of two secondary schools, obtaining very positive results in terms of increasing students’ knowledge about computers, increasing their interest in Computing, and making them get a more accurate vision of the discipline.
