The new cloud computing paradigm: the way to IT seen as a utility

In the present competitive environment, companies are wondering how to reduce their IT costs while increasing their efficiency and agility to react when changes in the business processes are required. Cloud Computing is the latest paradigm to optimize the use of IT resources considering ?everything as a service? and receiving these services from the Cloud (Internet) instead of owning and managing hardware and software assets. The benefits from the model are clear. However, there are also concerns and issues to be solved before Cloud Computing spreads across the different industries. This model will allow a pay-per-use model for the IT services and many benefits like cost savings, agility to react when business demands changes and simplicity because there will not be any infrastructure to operate and administrate. It will be comparable to the well known utilities like electricity, water or gas companies. However, this paper underlines several risk factors of the model. Optimización del coste de aprovisionamiento de gas en el mercado mayorista español para una comercializadora

Los precios de compra de gas natural en el mercado mayorista español son los más altos de toda Europa. Este escenario provoca que haya que buscar alternativas para minimizar los costes de aprovisionamiento para una comercializadora de gas. En este proyecto se analizan distintas oportunidades de compra de gas en los mercados europeos y su importación al sistema gasista español para el suministro final a clientes, con el fin de optimizar los costes del gas natural para una comercializadora. En la búsqueda de nuevas oportunidades se incluye también un análisis del impacto económico en el mercado, de la producción de “shale gas” en España a medio - largo plazo. ABSTRACT The gas prices in the Spanish gas market are the highest in Europe. This scenario leads the Spanish gas trading companies to look for alternatives to minimize gas supply costs. In this project it is analyzed different opportunities of gas supply in the European markets and the gas import to the Spanish gas system, in order to optimize the costs of the natural gas for a gas trading company. Along with this, it is also studied, the economic impact of the “shale gas” production in Spain in a medium - long term on the Spanish gas market

An Empirical Analysis of the Spanish Gas Price Structure

We can say without hesitation that in energy markets a throughout data analysis is crucial when designing sophisticated models that are able to capture most of the critical market drivers. In this study we will attempt to investigate into Spanish natural gas prices structure to improve understanding of the role they play in the determination of electricity prices and decide in the future about price modelling aspects. To further understand the potential for modelling, this study will focus on the nature and characteristics of the different gas price data available. The fact that the existing gas market in Spain does not incorporate enough liquidity of trade makes it even more critical to analyze in detail available gas price data information that in the end will provide relevant information to understand how electricity prices are affected by natural gas markets. In this sense representative Spanish gas prices are typically difficult to explore given the fact that there is not a transparent gas market yet and all the gas imported in the country is negotiated and purchased by private companies at confidential terms.

Project Management : Gestión de la remedición mediambiental de las plantas de gas manufacturado

Para hacerse cargo del legado de las Plantas de Gas Manufacturado (MGP) en el Estado de Nueva York, la División de Remediación Medioambiental del Departamento de Conservación Medioambiental, creo las Investigaciones de las áreas afectadas y el Programa de Remediación Medioambiental. Con el paso de los años, la conciencia y entendimiento de la importancia y complejidad de estos proyectos fue creciendo, ya que las investigaciones realizadas daban fe del tamaño y extensión de la contaminación asociada a las plantas de gas manufacturado, propiedad ahora de las diversas compañías de gas que operan a lo largo y ancho del Estado de Nueva York. Tras varios años dentro del Programa de Remediación Medioambiental, muchas de estas compañías han intentado manejar estos vastos y complejos proyectos como han podido, dejándose llevar un poco, subestimando y pasando por alto muchos detalles, ya que al fin y al cabo son proyecto regulados por el estado y que, por tanto, son financiados enteramente por este. Esto ha ido causando en los últimos años grandes problemas a algunas Compañías que a la hora de reportar estos proyectos se han encontrado con una falta total de control y grandes lagunas que resolver. Una técnica para resolver estos problemas es hacer uso de grandes técnicas de gestión empresarial como es el Project Management. En este proyecto se exponen y desarrollan las técnicas que han de utilizarse para integrar la Gestión de Proyectos con el fin de poder gestionar y coordinar las competentes demandas de alcance, tiempo, costes, calidad, recursos, y riesgos con el fin de alcanzar los requerimientos y objetivos del proyecto y de la Compañía. ABSTRACT To address the Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) legacy in New York State, the Department of Environmental Conservation’s Division of Environmental Remediation has established the MGP Site Investigation and Remediation Programs. With the passage of time the Department’s understanding of the complexity of these sites grew, as investigations identified the extend of the contamination problem associated with many MGPs, property of the Operating Companies in the State. Through many years under the Remediation Programs, some Operating Companies have tried to manage these large and complex projects as they could, underestimating and overlooking them, as they were, in fact, regulated and financed by the Department. This has cause a lot of controlling issues and gaps to solve to the companies. Now the companies are trying to solve this kind of problems using the more innovative management techniques, as Project Management. This project expose and explains how to integrate the project management processes into the MGP Projects under the Remediation Program, to manage and balance the competing demands of scope, time ,cost, quality, resources, and risk to meet the project and company’s requirements and objectives.
