ABSTRACT Globalization, in recent decades, has had a wide impact and influence on the evolution of the processes involved in the urban planning management. This influence has been particularly notable in the formation processes for the Global Cities (GC). However, within the current processes, even in those started decades ago, discrepancies are found between the urbanterritorial models and their relation to the processes of formation for the CG. This is because each territory, or CG, has not followed a uniform process; although, each process has been adapted through the business model of the "Strategic Planning" (SP) to serve and enhance the most unique characteristics of each urban territory, until reaching the ambitious global leadership positions. Therefore, the success of SP is based on simplifying the complexity of the models and actors involved in the processes of formation of the GCs and territories. This research aims to analyze the value of SP as a process for the urban and territorial management; intended to clarify both models and elements of which it is composed. And, for so, identify the relationships that occur between them. For reasons related to the required limits of all research, and through the support of this research by both the tutor and the consulted outside experts, has agreed to analyze the most characteristic aspects of the strategic process, which are: territory, economy and governance. This research was conducted through the use of the case study methodology; by a process of information collection of two field studies, Singapore and Dubai, with similarities in both the process and the results; and through consultation with a variety of multidisciplinary experts. Whose information and input has been articulated and processed by the use of a system prepared for the complex analysis of realities presented in the research’s conceptual framework. Thus, analyzing the asymmetries and relationship between the results of the study cases of Singapore and Dubai, have shown how the urban-territorial actions, which have been carried out in both cities and in their surrounding territories, are the result of the use of the strategic planning process for the benefit of a better position with respect to the global context. Meanwhile, along the conceptual framework correlates and clarifies the territorial, economic and governance processes, identifying responsibilities between the institutions, agencies, agents and actors (public and private) that initiate and manage both strategic planning and processes derived from it. Finally, the cross-analysis of the results shows the relationship between strategic planning, urban and territorial planning, economic management and governance. Being able to identify and eliminate the asymmetries produced during the implementation of a strategic planning for the formation of a Global City.

The "Bio-climatic Design Handbook: guidelines for the development of planning regulations" is a tool for urban planning and design professionals planning for the construction of public space taking into account bioclimatic and environmental standards. Based on environmental conditions assessment, urban design guidelines are given. These take into account various scales; from the territory to the microclimatic reality. From these general keys for the design of public space the handbook performs recommendations on specific case studies. The application of bioclimatic techniques in urban design promotes comfort in the public space and the respect for the existing environment, while it influences the energy consumption of buildings that conform this open space. The tool was developed in the context of BIOURB project, where Spain and Portugal cooperate writing this bilingual handbook. The case studies are located in this cross-border region.

Two scientific schools have been in coexistence from the beginning of genetics, one of them searching for factors of inheritance and the other one applying biometrical models to study the relationships between relatives. With the development of molecular genetics, the possibilities of detecting genes having a noticeable effect in traits augmented. Some genes with large or medium effects were localized in animals, although the most common result was to detect markers linked to these genes, allowing the possibility of assisting selection programs with markers. When a large amount of simple and inexpensive markers were available, the SNPs, new possibilities were opened since they did not need the presence of genes of large or medium effect controlling a trait, because the whole genome was scanned. Using a large amount of SNPs permits having a prediction of the breeding value at birth accurate enough to be used in some cases, like dairy cattle, to halve its generation interval. In other animal breeding programs, the implementation of genomic selection is less clear and the way in which it can be useful should be carefully studied. The need for large populations for associating phenotypic data and markers, plus the need for repeating the process continuously, complicates its application in some cases. The implementation of the information provided by the SNPs in current genetic programs has led to the development of complex statistical tools, joining the efforts of the two schools, factorial and biometrical, that nowadays work closely related.

Underspanned suspension bridges are structures with important economical and aesthetic advantages, due to their high structural efficiency. However, road bridges of this typology are still uncommon because of limited knowledge about this structural system. In particular, there remains some uncertainty over the dynamic behaviour of these bridges, due to their extreme lightness. The vibrations produced by vehicles crossing the viaduct are one of the main concerns. In this work, traffic-induced dynamic effects on this kind of viaduct are addressed by means of vehicle-bridge dynamic interaction models. A finite element method is used for the structure, and multibody dynamic models for the vehicles, while interaction is represented by means of the penalty method. Road roughness is included in this model in such a way that the fact that profiles under left and right tyres are different, but not independent, is taken into account. In addition, free software {PRPgenerator) to generate these profiles is presented in this paper. The structural dynamic sensitivity of underspanned suspension bridges was found to be considerable, as well as the dynamic amplification factors and deck accelerations. It was also found that vehicle speed has a relevant influence on the results. In addition, the impact of bridge deformation on vehicle vibration was addressed, and the effect on the comfort of vehicle users was shown to be negligible.

DELLA proteins are the master negative regulators in gibberellin (GA) signaling acting in the nucleus as transcriptional regulators. The current view of DELLA action indicates that their activity relies on the physical interaction with transcription factors (TFs). Therefore, the identification of TFs through which DELLAs regulate GA responses is key to understanding these responses from a mechanistic point of view. Here, we have determined the TF interactome of the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) DELLA protein GIBBERELLIN INSENSITIVE and screened a collection of conditional TF overexpressors in search of those that alter GA sensitivity. As a result, we have found RELATED TO APETALA2.3, an ethylene-induced TF belonging to the group VII ETHYLENE RESPONSE FACTOR of the APETALA2/ethylene responsive element binding protein superfamily, as a DELLA interactor with physiological relevance in the context of apical hook development. The combination of transactivation assays and chromatin immunoprecipitation indicates that the interaction with GIBBERELLIN INSENSITIVE impairs the activity of RELATED TO APETALA2.3 on the target promoters. This mechanism represents a unique node in the cross regulation between the GA and ethylene signaling pathways controlling differential growth during apical hook development.

Contributing to the acquisition of professional creativity and teamwork skills has been a special challenge for some of the subjects taught at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM), and this has been a starting point for the work described in this paper. Some professors have intuited that the use of cooperative classrooms could facilitate the acquisition of these skills. We describe the new methodologies applied within cooperative classrooms by some professors, and present the procedure for measuring students’ perception of their own learning outcomes, skill improvements, and overall satisfaction with the use of this kind of classroom. For this project, 250 students enrolled in several subjects answered a questionnaire. The featuresof thesubjectsinvolved intheproject arewidely disparate. We present the results of the statistical analysis with special emphasis on creativity and teamwork skills, and we conclude that the use of cooperative classroom has a positive influence on the acquisition of these skills. This work has the added value of being the first analysis of student perception of the use of cooperative classroom in the acquisition of creativity and teamwork skills.

This paper try to prove how artisans c ould discover all uniform tilings and very interesting others us ing artisanal combinatorial pro cedures without having to use mathematical procedures out of their reac h. Plane Geometry started up his way through History by means of fundamental drawing tools: ruler and co mpass. Artisans used same tools to carry out their orna mental patterns but at some point they began to work manually using physical representations of fi gures or tiles previously drawing by means of ruler and compass. That is an important step for craftsman because this way provides tools that let him come in the world of symmetry opera tions and empirical knowledge of symmetry groups. Artisans started up to pr oduce little wooden, ceramic or clay tiles and began to experiment with them by means of joining pieces whether edge to edge or vertex to vertex in that way so it can c over the plane without gaps. Economy in making floor or ceramic tiles could be most important reason to develop these procedures. This empiric way to develop tilings led not only to discover all uniform tilings but later discovering of aperiodic tilings.

Some evidence shows that the rate of perceived exertion of one session (RPE-S) and fatigue (Fat) of athletes can be decreased by the intake of carbohydrates (HCO) during exercise. However, it is well known that professional athletes do not meet nutritional recommendations (NR) but a long term nutritional intervention (NI) can improve their dietary intake (DI). What is not known is whether these long-term changes in DI can influence RPE-S and Fat of training. Our aim was to conduct a long term NI to adapt the DI of one professional basketball player to current NR and evaluate the influence of these changes on long-term RPE and Fat.

This paper groups recent supply chain management research focused on organizational design and its software support. The classification encompasses criteria related to research methodology and content. Empirical studies from management science focus on network types and organizational fit. Novel planning algorithms and innovative coordination schemes are developed mostly in the field of operations research in order to propose new software features. Operations and production management realize cost-benefit analysis of IT software implementations. The success of software solutions for network coordination depends strongly on the fit of three dimensions: network configuration, coordination scheme and software functionality. This paper concludes with proposals for future research on unaddressed issues within and among the identified research streams.

In this paper, the mathematical description of the temporal selfimaging effect is studied, focusing on the situation in which the train of pulses to be dispersed has been previously periodically modulated in phase and amplitude. It is demonstrated that, for each input pulse and for some specific values of the chromatic dispersion, a subtrain of optical pulses is generated whose envelope is determined by the Discrete Fourier Transform of the modulating coefficients. The mathematical results are confirmed by simulations of various examples and some limits on the realization of the theory are commented.
