From a pragmatic point of view, it is the people who make an organisation, but organisations are both people and structures, and not least organisations develop culture. One of the significant features of the European Educational Research Association (EERA) as an organisation is that many of its activities are run by people on a voluntary basis. Apart from a small office, now in Berlin, which oversees and handles the everyday management, participation on Council, reviewing and programming for ECER (European Conference on Educational Research), managing networks, etc. are all undertaken as voluntary work by academics from across Europe (and beyond). From the large group of people who are currently sustaining these activities, many have participated from the beginning, but many others, after having been once at the conference, returned and got engaged in the work, for instance within one of the networks. Among the many who participate in EERA activities, there is a diversity of reasons for doing so, but there seems to be something which is recurring in what people say about why they do it. One of these recurring ideas is that the discursive norms of the organisation are enforced in the context of welcoming people and ideas, and second, there exists an intellectual generosity and egalitarianism which encourages newcomers to participate rather than protect themselves. We believe that this tells something about what EERA and ECER are about.

Introdução: A doença cardiovascular é uma das principais causas de incapacidade e diminuição da qualidade de vida. O grande investimento na atuação preventiva ou de reabilitação impõe um apelo especial à conjugação de esforços por parte de todos os interlocutores. Neste contexto, o objetivo do presente estudo centrou-se em avaliar o impacto de um Programa de Reabilitação na qualidade de vida e outros indicadores de saúde em indivíduos que possuam doença cardíaca, analisando a influência das variáveis sociodemográficas, antropométricas, clínicas, de qualidade de vida e de atividade física. Método: Recorrendo a um estudo de natureza quantitativa, do tipo prospetivo com características pré-experimentais, inquirimos 48 indivíduos portadores de patologia cardíaca, na sua maioria do género masculino (75%), com idades compreendidas entre os 26 e 87 anos (M= 57.90; Dp= 12.23), casados (81.2%), reformados (45,8%), com fatores de risco cardiovascular (87.5%), que se encontram com algum grau de limitação física para atividades quotidianas. O protocolo de pesquisa inclui, além de uma ficha sociodemográfica e clínica, instrumentos de medida aferidos e validados para a população portuguesa (Qualidade de Vida e Índice de Atividade Física), os quais foram aplicados antes e após a Fase II do Programa de Reabilitação Cardíaca, Resultados: Após implementação do Programa de Reabilitação Cardíaca, os resultados evidenciam uma melhoria estatisticamente significativa nos dados antropométricos (peso, IMC e PA), nas características analíticas (CT, LDL, TG, HDL e glicemia), nos dados hemodinâmicos (PAS, PAD, FE%), na prova de esforço (METs e %FC) e ainda na qualidade de vida (nos seus domínios emocional, físico, social e global) e no índice de atividade física (vigorosa, moderada, caminhada, METs e tempo sentado). Conclusão: A evidência dos resultados obtidos dá corpo à importância duma abordagem multidisciplinar nos programas de reabilitação cardíaca, realçando a necessidade de aumentar a taxa de referenciação para os centros existentes e a necessidade de criar novos centros, de forma a se poderem proporcionar cuidados considerados essenciais na recuperação pós-evento agudo e na prevenção da doença cardiovascular e cardíaca em geral. Dietary fibre (DF) has been recognized as a major determinant for improvement of health. Hence the means of information through which people become aware of its benefits are crucial. This work aimed at studying the sources of information about DF, as a means to educate people about aspects related to healthy eating. Factors such as gender, level of education, living environment or country were evaluated as to their effect on the selection of sources and preferences. For this, a descriptive cross-sectional study by means of a questionnaire, applied to a non-probabilistic sample of 6010 participants from 10 countries in different continents (Europe, Africa and America), answered after informed consent by all participants. For the analysis were used several descriptive statistics tools, crosstabs and chi square test to assess the relations between some of the variables under study. The results showed that mostly the information about DF comes from the internet, but the participants recognize that television might be a most suitable way to disseminate information about DF. The results also indicated differences between genders, levels of education, living environments and countries. The internet, the preferred source of information, got highest scores for Hungary, for urban areas, for university level of education and for female gender. The radio, the least scored source of information, was preferred in Egypt, for men and with lower education (primary school). As a conclusion, people get information through the internet due to easy access. However, it is to some extent a risk given the impossibility to control de information made public on the internet. The role of health centers and hospitals as well as schools should definitely be increased, as a responsible way to ensure correct information.
