Teste de um modelo estrutural preditor do suporte instrumental e emocional em adultos idosos

Pretendeu-se estudar a influência da idade, do género e da saúde funcional subjectiva sobre o Suporte Instrumental e Emocional em adultos idosos. A amostra foi constituída por 397 idosos (leque etário: 65-97 anos; M = 74) residentes em meio urbano. Recorrendo à modelação de equações estruturais (LISREL 8.53), o primeiro estudo consistiu na validação do Questionário de Suporte Instrumental e Emocional (Diniz, 2007a) e o segundo no teste de um Modelo Estrutural Preditor de Suporte Instrumental e Emocional. Os resultados encontrados sugerem que na 3ª idade as pessoas têm uma maior saúde funcional subjectiva e dão mais Suporte Instrumental do que as pessoas na 4ª idade. Os adultos idosos na 4ª idade recebem mais suporte instrumental e providenciam menos suporte emocional que os adultos idosos na 3ª idade, tendo em conta a influência da Saúde Funcional Subjectiva. Os homens idosos têm mais saúde funcional subjectiva e dão mais suporte instrumental enquanto as mulheres idosas dão e recebem mais suporte emocional. Por último, quanto melhor for a saúde funcional subjectiva, maior a recepção de suporte emocional, e quanto pior for a saúde funcional subjectiva, maior a recepção de suporte instrumental.

The intention of this investigation is to study the influence of the age, gender and functional subjective health on the Instrumental and Emotional Support in senior adults. The sample was constituted by 397 individuals (aged: 65-97 years; M = 74) residents in urban environment. Using Structural Equation Modelling (LISREL 8.53), the first study consisted of the validation of the Questionnaire of Instrumental and Emotional Support (Diniz, 2007a) followed by a test of a Structural Model Predictor of Instrumental and Emotional Support. The results indicate that people in the 3rd Age have greater functional subjective health and give more instrumental support than those in the 4th Age. Senior adults in 4th Age receive more instrumental support and give less emotional support, than those in the 3rd Agr, considering the effects of the moderating variable, Functional Subjective Health. Male subjects have more functional subjective health and give more instrumental support; female subjects give and receive more emotional support. Furthermore, the better functional subjective health, the greater reception of emotional support, and, the worst functional subjective health, the greater reception of instrumental support.
