Mastectomia e corporalidade: impacto da cirurgia estético-reconstrutiva

Dada a importância das repercussões psicossociais da mastectomia, este estudo pretendeu averiguar qual o impacto psicológico da mastectomia radical nas vivências do corpo, da sexualidade e do relacionamento conjugal, em mulheres mastectomizadas por cancro da mama. Concomitantemente, procurou estudar a influência da cirurgia estéticoreconstrutiva da(s) mama(s) nos domínios supracitados. Para o efeito, foi utilizada metodologia qualitativa e a Análise Fenomenológica Interpretativa de Jonathan Smith enquanto instrumento de pesquisa. Esta investigação comporta uma amostra de 6 mulheres mastectomizadas por cancro da mama: 3 sem reconstrução e 3 com reconstrução. Os resultados obtidos evidenciam o seguinte: problemáticas associadas às vivências do corpo (nomeadamente para a amostra sem reconstrução); a influência proporcionalmente directa da corporalidade na vivência da sexualidade; as vivências do corpo e da sexualidade não interferem na vivência do relacionamento conjugal, sendo este apenas dependente do suporte emocional facultado pelo companheiro e do tipo de relacionamento que existia antes do diagnóstico da doença; Quanto à influência da cirurgia estético-reconstrutiva, os resultados comprovam benefícios psicológicos ao nível das vivências do corpo e da sexualidade sendo, contudo, insignificante na vivência do relacionamento conjugal. Given the importance of the psychossocials repercussions of the mastectomy, this study intended to inquire the psychological impact of the radical mastectomy in the experiences of the body, the sexuality and the conjugal relationship in women submitted to mastectomy caused by breast cancer. Concomitantly, it looked for to study the influence of the esthetic-reconstructive surgery of the breast(s) in the above-mentioned domains. For the effect, qualitative methodology was used and the Interpretative phenomenological analysis of Jonathan Smith was used as a research instrument. This investigation holds a sample of 6 women submitted to mastectomy caused by breast cancer: 3 without reconstruction and 3 with reconstruction. The gotten results evidence the following: problematic associated to the experiences of the body (nominated for the sample without reconstruction); the proportionally direct influence of the body experience in the sexuality; the experiences of the body and the sexuality do not intervene with the experience of the conjugal relationship, being this only dependant of the emotional support by the companion and of the type of relationship that existed before the diagnosis of the illness; Regarding the influence of the estheticreconstructive surgery, the results prove psychological benefits for the level of experiences of the body and the sexuality being, however, insignificant in the experience of the conjugal relationship.
