Aproximar a família ao idoso institucionalizado

No sentido de compreender a relação que se estabelece entre a família e o idoso institucionalizado realizou-se o presente estudo, cujos objetivos consistem em identificar os motivos e os agentes intervenientes no processo de institucionalização; caracterizar a relação família-idoso após a sua institucionalização; perceber a frequência das visitas dos familiares aos idosos institucionalizados, bem como perceber que meios de comunicação são usados pelos familiares para se manterem em contacto com o idoso; perceber se os familiares têm o hábito de passearem com o seu idoso, se os levam a festas organizadas pela família e a casa de familiares; identificar motivos para que o idoso se recuse a sair da instituição e perceber se existe a participação das famílias nas atividades desenvolvidas na instituição. Fez-se o estudo numa instituição que acolhe idosos no concelho de Vila Nova de Famalicão, que se denomina Cooperativa de Solidariedade Social Mais Plural, que contou com a participação de treze familiares de idosos. Trata- se de um estudo qualitativo, com recurso à entrevista. Os principais resultados mostram que os motivos fundamentais do processo de institucionalização dos idosos são as incapacidades evidenciadas por estes que implicam a sua perda de autonomia. A família visita o idoso na instituição, particularmente o familiar responsável pelo internamento e fá-lo com a regularidade possível face às suas próprias limitações. Quando não é possível a deslocação à instituição o familiar estabelece contacto com o idoso através do telefone. No que se refere à deslocação do idoso a casa dos familiares constatamos que só ocorre em ocasiões festivas. Sempre que solicitado o familiar passeia com o seu idoso, conduzindo-o a locais que este deseje. Igualmente, foi possível perceber que existe a participação das famílias nas atividades desenvolvidas na instituição e que estes consideram essas atividades importantes e necessárias para os idosos.ASBTRACT In order to understand the relationship that is established between the family and the institutionalized elderly it was held the present study, whose objectives are to identify the reasons and the actors involved in the process of institutionalization; characterize the relation-old family after its institutionalization; notice the frequency of family visits to institutionalized elderly, and realize what means of communication are used by the family to remain in contact with the elderly; notice if family members have a habit of walking with his elderly; if they take their elderly to parties organized by the family and to the house of members of the family; to identify the reasons why the elderly refuses to leave the institution and realize if family participates in activities organized by the institution. It was held a study in an institution in the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão which hosts elderly which included the participation of thirteen elderly relatives. This is a qualitative study using the interview. The main results show that the fundamental reasons of the process of institutionalization of the elderly are the disabilities evidenced by these, involving the loss of their independence. The family visits the elderly in institution, particularly the relative responsible for the admission in the institution, and does it as regularly as possible according to their own limitations. When it is not possible to travel to the institution, the relative establishes contact with the elderly over the phone. With regard to the going of the elderly to the house of relatives it was found that only occurs on special occasions. Whenever requested the family walks with his elderly, taking him/her to places that he/she wants. Also, it is noted that there is the participation of families in activities in the institution and those activities are considered by relatives important and necessary for the elderly.
