Aplicabilidade do Lean no setor bancário - estudo de caso

A recente crise financeira do subprime despoletou uma mudança na gestão estratégica nos diversos sectores em geral e, em particular das Instituições Financeiras. Considerando a indiscutível ligação do sistema bancário no financiamento da economia portuguesa, e consequente impacto na sustentabilidade económica e financeira nacional, assoma-se o interesse académico em examinar perspetivas de gestão adotadas no sector bancário visando responder ao estado atual do sector financeiro. A filosofia Lean tem vindo a disseminar-se no sector da saúde e dos serviços, existindo amplos estudos dentro destas áreas, contudo o sector financeiro está agora a redigir as primeiras páginas neste percurso. O presente trabalho pretende estudar a introdução do Lean como estratégia de gestão e transformação no sector bancário e analisar a sua aplicabilidade em particular no Banif – Banco Internacional do Funchal S.A.. Para tal, realizou-se um estudo de caso da introdução e aplicação da filosofia numa área de backoffice do Banco. O estudo revelou exequibilidade na extensão da filosofia Lean ao sector bancário, traduzida pela simplificação dos processos, utilização mais eficiente dos recursos, adoção de metodologias e ferramentas que permitiram eliminar desperdícios e otimizar o valor para o cliente.

This is the proposal for the study and development of the dissertation to be carried out on the applicability of Lean principles to Banking. The recent financial crisis triggered a shift on strategic management in a diversity of industries and services, particularly in Financial Institutions. Considering that the bonds that undoubtedly link the banking system to financing of the Portuguese, and the resulting impact on national economic and financial sustainability, an academic interest emerges with the aim of examining management perspectives adopted by the banking system as a way to address the current status of finance. Lean principles have been broadening its scope of application among healthcare and other services according to thorough reference, yet finance is only now giving the first steps towards Lean application. This dissertation aims at studying the introduction of Lean as a strategy for managing and actually transforming banking services as well as analysing its applicability to the specific case of Banif – Banco Internacional do Funchal. A study of Lean introduction and application was therefore carried out on a backoffice area of the Bank. The study revealed that extending the Lean principles to banking is feasible as a way to simplifying processes, using resources more efficiently, and adopting tools and methodologies that allow for the neutralization of waste and value optimization for the customer.
