Vítimas de violência no namoro

A investigação internacional e nacional na área da violência nas relações de namoro tem experimentado um crescimento notável durante os últimos anos. Contudo, tem-se ignorado o estudo da procura de ajuda das vítimas desta problemática. Neste sentido, o presente projeto apresenta uma proposta de investigação no domínio da violência nas relações de intimidade juvenis, procurando-se identificar as principais barreiras e elementos facilitadores do pedido de ajuda perante uma relação de namoro abusiva. Procedeu-se à elaboração de uma revisão da literatura, propondo-se a realização de um estudo quantitativo junto de alunos de idades compreendidas entre os 12 e os 17 anos das escolas do concelho da Trofa. O questionário será o método de recolha de informação seleccionado uma vez que permite a possibilidade de inquirir um grande número de pessoas. Relativamente aos resultados que se poderá obter com a implementação deste estudo, espera-se que a não denúncia de comportamentos abusivos numa relação de namoro se sobreponha à sua denúncia por vergonha e por ainda se considerar este crime como não gravoso. Nos casos em que é feita a denúncia/revelação prevê-se que as vítimas optem por uma divulgação informal, como os amigos. A finalizar, procedeu-se à descrição das limitações do estudo onde se procura ainda identificar pistas para uma investigação futura nesta área.

Both national and international academic research regarding the subject of relationship violence has seen a great increase in recent years. However, the specific subject of help seeking in regard to the victims has been largely neglected. Like so, the present study proposes an investigation in the field of youth relationship violence, seeking to identify the main barriers and facilitators of help seeking for victims, mainly when faced with a critical situation of violence. To better understand this problematic, a literature review was conducted on this matter. Afterwards we propose a quantitative study with a sample composed of students between the ages of 12 and 17 years old, in the schools of the city of Trofa. The questionnaire was the chosen method to collect information, since it allows us to obtain a bigger sample. Regarding the expected results of this study, we might observe that the prevalence of help seeking behaviours among victims of relationship violence is low, this being largely explained by victim shaming (by the own victim or by someone else) and by attitudes of trivialization towards this particular type of crime, which in turn tend to undermine its consequences. In the cases that the victims adopt help seeking behaviours, by either pressing formal charges against the offender or by disclosing the incident to someone he/she trusts, we predict that victims will tend to prefer a more informal type approach. Lastly, we enumerated the limitations of the present study, as well as identified possible suggestions for a future investigation in this particular subject.
