Franz Lambert, a Franciscan friar from Avignon, and a famed preacher, was in early contact with the Swiss Reformers. He left his order, travelling in 1523 to Wittenberg, where Luther obtained a pension for him from the Elector of Saxony. Even before Luther, he became one of the first monks to marry, and also was active in the Reformation in Hesse. He authored tracts, including this one defending the Reformation as an act of Divine mercy revealed after many centuries of darkness, and several Biblical commentaries.
