Resumo

"During the 1996 spring session, the General Assembly passed and the Governor signed landmark legislation creating a Department of Human Services (DHS) effective July 1, 1997. The new department consolidates three human services departments in their entirety : Department of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (DASA) - Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) - Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities (DMH/DD)."

"In addition, programs that provide direct service to individuals and families in the following three departments were included in the consolidation: Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS)-Day care-Youth services; Department of Public Health (DPH)-Women, Infants and Children(WIC)- Family Case Management-Other health related and prevention programs; Department of Public Aid (DPA)-Cash assistance, food stamps and Medicaid eligibility-Employment programs and day care-Social service programs."
