The Southern Groundwater Protection Planning Region was established in 1992, and is one of four such regions in Illinois. This region emcompasses Madison, Monroe, Randolph and St. Clair counties. Representatives from the committee are from local health departments, soil and water conservation districts, extension offices, public water supplies, industry, municipalities, state agencies and concerned citizens. All committee members are appointed by the Director of the Illinois EPA.
