The first edition, Paris, 1757-1817, consisted of 29 volumes. Volumes 1-21 were written by Le Beau, who died while v. 22 was in progress. H. P. Ameilhon finished the work (v. 22-27) The "Table alphabétique" (v. 28-29) was made by Ravier.
