Beginning with 1921, the reports have the serial number of the University of the State of New York bulletin.
From 1889 to 1918 the reports consist of the Report of the director and appendixes, which from 1893 include various bulletins issued by the library. All these reports and bulletins were also issued separately.

Reports not published for 1820-23, 1842 and 1919-20.
Reports previous to 1859, the 42d were not numbered.
