The fountains, designed by Lebrun were placed at the path intersections of the labyrinth, which was destroyed in 1774 and replaced by the Bosquet de la Reine. This suite of engravings was published in 1677 with a text by Charles Perrault based on Aesop's fables and appeared in subsequent eds., some in other languages, some with recut engravings. It has been cataloged by the Library of Congress as part of the "Cabinet du roi" series of engravings [v. VI, 2] (LCCN 14-3541). Le Clerc's 41 numbered engravings are printed 9 to a leaf (4 leaves) and 5 on the final leaf. Title from first engraving: Plan dv Labyrinthe de Versailles. Jombert, C.-A. Cat. rais. S.
