They derive from John Thurston's Religious emblems (London, 1809), for which they were wood-engraved from Thurston's drawings by A.R. Branston, C. Nesbit, L. Clennell, and H. Hole. Illustrated colophon wood-engraved by J. Berryman, for Bensley & Sons (Thurston's printers). See Landwehr.
