Resumo

Notebook with a handwritten copy of lecture summaries for a physics course given by Harvard Professor John Winthrop. The notes were made by Timothy Foster in 1772 and 1773. The volume contains twenty-five lectures with some diagrams.

Title transcribed from the top of the first page. Received on December 16, 1964 in the Harvard University Library as a gift of the American Antiquarian Society.

Some pages are unattached and the paper is brittle.

Timothy Foster's association with Harvard College is unknown. John Winthrop (1714-1779; Harvard AB 1732), the second Hollis Professor of Mathematics and Natural Philosophy, taught science, astronomy and mathematics at Harvard from 1739 until his death on May 3, 1779.

"The Summary of a Course of Experimental Philosophical Lectures," a volume of lecture notes created by Professor John Winthrop in 1746 and 1747 for this lecture series is available in the Papers of John and Hannah Winthrop (HUM 9) in the Harvard University Archives.
