Resumo

Copies of warrants and writs concerning public unrest caused by an attempt to survey lands on Long Island in 1702.

Item 1: warrant from the governor of New York, Edward Viscount Cornbury (later Earl of Clarendon) to the high sheriff of Suffolk County to arrest the named individuals thought to have caused a riot preventing a land survey, March 6th 1702; Item 2: a letter to the same sheriff requesting protection for the surveyor when another survey attempt is made, March 6th 1702; Item 3: a second warrant from the governor to the sheriff of Suffolk requesting protection for a future surveyor, June 23 1703; also an order to the sheriff of Suffolk to deliver the arrested men to the sheriff of New York, April 30th 1703; Item 4: writ from John Bridges, Chief Justice of New York Province and territories to the high sheriff of New York City and Province to accept custody of the arrested individuals, April 4th 1703.

2 documents were copied at New London (CT) by Daniel Wetherell and dated June 1704. A 3rd copy is dated April 3 1703 and is signed William Horrick. The 4th document is noted as a copy but is neither signed nor dated.
