Resumo

Two-page handwritten letter from Harvard undergraduate William Prescott to his classmate, Oliver Prescott, that chiefly describes, in florid language, the discipline received by John Rowe (Harvard AB 1783) and others from College officers for disorderly behavior.

This item was donated to Houghton Library on July 27, 1994 by Boston antiquarian bookseller George Goodspeed (1903-1997; Harvard AB 1925) and transferred to the Harvard University Archives in 1999 as part of George Goodspeed's collection of Harvardiana.

The item was originally cataloged as part of HUA 734.

William Prescott (1762-1844) received an AB from Harvard in 1783. Prescott practiced law in Salem, Massachusetts, and later in Boston, where he became a judge of the Suffolk County Court of Common Pleas in 1818. Prescott also served at Harvard as an Overseer (1810-1821) and a Corporation member (1820-1826).

Oliver Prescott (1762-1827) received an AB from Harvard in 1783 and was given an honorary MD 1815. Prescott practiced medicine in Boston, and later in Newburyport, Mass.
