John Gardiner was born in Boston, Mass.; studied law at Inner Temple in London; practiced briefly on the Welsh circuit; was attorney-general of the island of Saint Christopher (Saint Kitts and Nevis) 1768-1783; practised law in Boston 1783-1786 and in Pownalboro (District of Maine; and served as representative of Pownalboro in the Massachusetts legislature until his death in 1793.
