Among the most studied topics in modern chemistry, nanoparticles play a domina-ting role. Due to their broad range of applications, the need for tailor-made materials is greater than ever. Therefore, a profound and detailed understanding of the syn-thesis and growth processes that lead to nanostructures is necessary. Only with this knowledge, reliable preparation-protocols are available and open the path to the de-sired nanomaterials in bulk amounts. The work presented in this thesis focuses on this challenge with special attention given to the synthesis and characterization of SnO2 nanomaterials.
