Entre o sonoro e o visual: relações e processos nas artes

This thesis proposes a discussion about the relationship between sound and image in the fild of Sound and Visual Arts. In this way, we realize a mapping of artists consid- ering some manifestations such as Visual Music, Sound Sculptures, Graphic Notation, Paintings, Concrete Poetry, Cinema and Multimedia with electronic and digital re- sources. We observe in the works of the artists, how operations with materials occur, identifying the means and techniques that give forms to the works. It is also relevant to consider the context in which the works are inserted, as they are a reflction of their spacetime realization, being therefore in sync with the other factors determining each realization, such as the scientifi, technological and cultural contexts. In these inter- sections between the contexts, we verify the existence of other similarities involving the works, such as the relation between art and science, since several works are developed from scientifi concepts, or are produced through collaboration between art- ists, scientists and engineers, or still, in more recent studies, it is common to fid works elaborated with the same means that are used in scientifi research. Hence, we focus in the functionality of the artists and treat the sound and visual elements as materi- als that are used in the formative processes of the artworks. With these principles, we are interested in discovering the ways of establishing relationships between sound and image.

Esta tese propõem uma discussão sobre as relações entre o som e a imagem no campo das Artes Sonoras e Artes Visuais. Para isto, realizamos um mapeamento de artistas em algumas manifestações como a Música Visual, as Esculturas Sonoras, as Partituras Gráfias, as Pinturas, as Poesias-concretas, o Cinema e os multimeios com os recursos eletrônicos e digitais. Observamos nos trabalhos dos artistas, o modo como ocorrem as operações com os materiais, identifiando os meios e as técnicas que dão forma às obras. Também é relevante o contexto em que os trabalhos estão inseridos, pois estes são reflxo de um espaço-tempo onde se encontram e, por isto, apresentam uma sin- tonia com os demais fatores que determinam cada época, como os contextos científio, tecnológico e cultural. Nestes cruzamentos entre os contextos, verifiamos a existência de outras similitudes que envolvem as obras, como as relações entre a arte e a ciência. Afial, muitos trabalhos são desenvolvidos a partir de conceitos científios, ou são pro- duzidos através da colaboração entre artistas, cientistas e engenheiros, ou ainda, nos trabalhos mais recentes, é comum encontrar obras criadas com os mesmos meios que são empregados na pesquisa científia. Assim, nos concentramos na operacionalidade dos artistas e tratamos os elementos sonoros e visuais como materiais para os processos formativos das obras. Com estes princípios, nos interessa descobrir as possibilidades nos modos de estabelecer relações entre os elementos sonoros e os visuais.
