Estilo e metalinguagem na literatura de Monteiro Lobato

Este trabalho é um estudo estilístico da linguagem literária de Monteiro Lobato (1882-1948), considerado o precursor da literatura infanto-juvenil brasileira. Na busca de traços específicos do estilo lobatiano, examinam-se aspectos do léxico e da variedade lingüística, do caráter neológico, do discurso metalingüístico e ideológico, que configuram a obra. O corpus, constituindo o que se convencionou chamar de Sítio do Picapau Amarelo, é formado dos livros escolhidos pelo próprio escritor como sua produção infanto-juvenil definitiva, em suas Obras completas, um ano antes de sua morte. Num enfoque especial, a metalinguagem participa como elemento de estilo, sob duas perspectivas: enquanto tema de discussão, nos diálogos que permeiam as narrativas, e enquanto matéria-prima de que se constrói a linguagem literária do autor. Para demonstrar esse duplo desempenho, são abordados os fatos reveladores do modo especial como o escritor concebe e utiliza a linguagem. Tais fatos, significativos e pertinentes à criação de uma metalinguagem, ilustram e comprovam a concepção de linguagem por ele adotada, para fins comunicativos e expressivos. Nessa perspectiva, constata-se uma relação estreita entre a teoria e a prática, com respeito ao fenômeno lingüístico. Elementos dos níveis fonético-fonológico, sintático, semântico e pragmático, analisados sob a designação de reflexões metalingüísticas, operações metalingüísticas e relações intertextuais, articulam-se e interagem, para a reconstituição da metalinguagem do escritor. Os resultados do estudo revelam a arte lingüística de Monteiro Lobato e sua vontade de expressar-se sobre a língua materna, por meio de mecanismos e valores expressivos, que atuam de forma às vezes mais, às vezes menos ativa, no contexto literário contemporâneo à criação da obra, funcionando como causa...

This work is a stylistic study of the literary language of Monteiro Lobato (1882-1948), considered the precursor of Brazilian youthful literature. In order to search specific characteristics of Lobatian style, aspects of the lexicon and linguistic variety, neological character, metalinguistic and ideological speech, that configure the workmanship, are examined. The corpus, constituting what it was stipulated to call Sítio do Picapau Amarelo, is formed by books chosen by the own writer as his definitive youthful production, in his Obras completas, one year before his death. In a special approach, the metalanguage participates as an important style element, under two perspectives: while subject of discussion, in the dialogues that permeate the narratives, and while main substance that construct the literary language of the author. To demonstrate this double performance, the revealing facts in the special way are boarded as the writer conceives and uses the language. Such facts, significant and pertinent for creating a metalanguage, illustrate and prove the conception of language adopted by him, for communicative and expressive aims. In this perspective, there is a close relation between theory and practice, with respect to the linguistic phenomenon. Elements of the phonetic-phonologic, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic levels, analyzed like metalinguistic reflections, metalinguistic operations and intertextual relations, are articulated and interacted, for reconstituting the metalanguage of the writer. The results of the study disclose to the linguistic art of Monteiro Lobato and his will to express himself on the mother tongue, by means of expressive mechanisms and values that act, in a sometimes more or less active way, in the contemporary literary context of the creation of the workmanship, working as cause and consequence of consciousness and concrete attitudes, concerning to the linguistic use.
