Heroínas e Vilões: os símbolos na obra Heroes and Villains de Angela Carter

Villains, publicado em 1969 pela autora inglesa Angela Carter. O romance tem como elemento fundamental símbolos representados por imagens, objetos e lugares que vão revelar também ao leitor a possível crítica ao ambiente patriarcal, observada pela fuga da personagem feminina de uma espécie de confinamento, em busca de seu espaço. Considerando ainda a importância das significações para a obra literária, este trabalho também pretende elucidar como o símbolo é trabalhado na construção do espaço e das personagens femininas. No primeiro capítulo, abordamos brevemente a vida e obra da autora, como também a fortuna crítica produzida sobre o romance. No segundo capítulo, apresentamos um levantamento das principais teorias acerca da ficção científica distópica, pós-modernidade e feminismo. Ainda no segundo capítulo, buscamos analisar as personagens presentes na sociedade pós-apocalíptica e verificar as diversas vozes presentes na intertextualidade. No terceiro capítulo, utilizando teorias sobre a simbologia, analisamos os símbolos presentes no romance. Sendo assim, o trabalho também ressalta como a obra colabora para divulgar a crítica sugerida pela autora contra o modelo patriarcal de sociedade

This dissertation intends to analyze the symbols in the novel Heroes and Villains, published in 1969 by the British author Angela Carter. The novel has as a fundamental characteristic the use of symbols represented by images, possibly built as a criticism directed to the patriarchal society, bearing in mind the main character’s escape from her confinement. This work has the intention to shed a light on how the symbols are built to represent aspects such as space and the female characters. In the first chapter of this study, we touch briefly on the life and works of the author, as well as the critical pieces produced on the novel. In the second chapter we cover the most relevant theories concerning dystopian science fiction, post modernism and feminism. Still in the second chapter, we analyze the characters in the context of a post-apocalyptic society and their many voices in their intertextuality. The third chapter is dedicated to the analysis, using the theories on symbology, of the symbols present in the novel. Lastly, our intention is also to divulge the criticism of the patriarchal model of a society, as intended by the writer
