Documento de trabajo (Español e Inglés); / Working document (Spanish and English); Third meeting of the SCA-ECLAC. Santiago, Chile, 1-3 June 2005 This document presents the main statistical activities included in the draft programme of work of the ECLAC system for the biennium 2006-2007. The programme of work was based on the proposed strategic framework for the same period, and was submitted to the States members of the Commission at the thirtieth session of ECLAC in San Juan, Puerto Rico, (28 June-2 July 2004); for their consideration. The process of consultation with governments regarding the framework was initiated on the occasion of the meeting of the ECLAC Committee of the Whole, held on 20 April 2004 at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The comments and suggestions made by the participating delegations were duly collected by the Secretariat and transmitted to the relevant internal bodies for their consideration and possible inclusion in the proposal by the Secretary-General. The Secretary-General presented his proposal to the fifty-ninth session of the General Assembly for timely adoption following its review by the relevant subsidiary bodies. The statistical activities of the programme of work are organized here in subprogrammes, following the structure of the reference document, which is available in electronic form from the ECLAC web site. The first three subprogrammes relate to ECLAC activities in the field of economic development (subprogrammes 1-3);; these are followed by social development activities (subprogrammes 4-6);, planning of public administration (subprogramme 7);, activities relating to the environment and human settlements, and natural resources and infrastructure (subprogrammes 8 and 9);, the statistics and economic projections subprogramme, and last the activities specially devoted to Mexico and Central America and the Caribbean. Each subprogramme is presented in a brief introductory note, followed by a description of the medium-term objective, the more specific results which are expected to be achieved in the biennium and the indicators of accomplishment, which will serve to show and measure the results and their effects. This is followed by a description of the subject areas that explicitly include activities of a statistical nature. For the sake of consistency, the numbering of the activities presented here is not correlative, but follows the structure of the original programme of work of the ECLAC system. Interested delegates may consult the reference document for the complete programme.
