The popularity of blogs has dramatically increased in the past decade, establishing them as a standard web-based communications tool. Although blogs are widely accepted as a valuable cultural, social, and intellectual resource, there is, to this day, no effective solution for semantic blog archiving and preservation. The recently completed BlogForever project, using the Invenio digital library software at its core, aimed at creating a software platform capable of aggregating, preserving, managing and disseminating blogs. Through the identification and analysis of the principles of blog archiving, we present how Invenio was extended and enriched to serve as a robust blog archiving platform, including an efficient blog crawler.
