Www-sovelluskehysten arviointi ja valinta

Useimmiten www-sovellusten käyttöliittymien rakentamiseen käytetään ohjelmistokehyksiä. Www-sovelluskehys voidaan valita lukuisista valmiista vaihtoehdoista. Valinta on kuitenkin ongelmallista. Vaikka hyviä vaihtoehtoja on paljon, www-sovelluskehykset ovat parhaimmillaan vain tietyissä tilanteissa. Tämän työn tavoitteena oli löytää keino vertailla www-sovelluskehyksiä. Menetelmän haluttiin olevan kustannustehokas. Työssä hyödynnettiin kirjallisuudesta löytyviä ohjeita ohjelmistokomponenttien ja työkalujen valintaan. Ohjeiden avulla valittiin www-sovelluskehyksien vertailuun sopivia arviointikriteerejä. Arviointikriteerien määrittelyä varten tutkittiin ohjelmistokehysten ja www-sovelluskehysten vaatimuksia. Ohjeiden avulla suoritettiin myös vertailu käytännössä. Työn tuloksena syntyneitä www-sovelluskehysten vaatimuksia ja arviointikriteerejä voidaan käyttää suoraan vertailuissa alustasta riippumatta. Tulosten avulla voidaan vähentää www-sovelluskehysten valintaan tarvittavan työn määrää. Työhön sisältyneen vertailun suorittamiseen kului kohtuullinen määrä aikaa, ja sillä kyettiin tunnistamaan eroja www-sovelluskehysten välillä.

Usually application frameworks are used in the development of user interfaces for web applications. Several options exist for web application frameworks. However, the selection of an alternative is problematic. Although several good choices are available, web application frameworks excel only in certain circumstances. The goal of this thesis was to find means to compare web application frameworks. The method also needed to be cost-effective. Guidelines found in literature for the selection of commercial off-the-shelf components were made use of in the thesis. With the help of the guidelines suitable evaluation criteria were selected to be used in web application framework comparisons. Requirements for application frameworks and web application frameworks were studied in order to determine the evaluation criteria. A comparison was also conducted with the help of the guidelines. The resulting web application framework requirements and evaluation criteria can be used directly in comparisons regardless of computing platform. The results are useful in reducing the amount of work required in web application framework selections. A reasonable amount of time was required in the conducted comparison and the comparison enabled identification of differences between web application frameworks.
