Tietoliikenteen tulevaisuuden näkymiä - Etelä-Karjala 2018

Tekniikan kehitys menee vauhdilla eteenpäin ja uusi verkkotekniikoita syntyy koko ajan. Haasteita tuottavat sopivien verkkotekniikoiden löytäminen käyttöön tietylle alueelle ja joissakin tapauksissa joudutaan tyytymään kompromissiratkaisuihin. Lyhyen kantaman langattomat kommunikaatioteknologiat soveltuvat esimerkiksi haja-asutusalueille ja saaristoon, mikäli perinteisen kuidun vetäminen niille alueille ei ole mahdollista. Tässä työssä tuodaan esille niitä langallisia ja langattomia tekniikoita, jotka ovat tällä hetkellä tai tulevaisuudessa merkityksellisiä Etelä-Karjalan kannalta. Osa tekniikoista voi jäädä kokonaan pois käytöstä kymmenen vuoden sisällä tai ne voivat yhdistyä ja muuttaa muotoaan. Työn tuloksena syntyneen kartoituksen perusteella saadaan visio siitä, miltä Etelä-Karjalan tilanne näyttää vuonna 2018. Nyt on jo tiedossa Soneran puhelinlankaverkon alasajo lähivuosina ja kuidun vetäminen viemäriin viemäröintitöiden yhteydessä. Tulevaisuuden kaistankäyttötarpeet ja erilaisten palvelujen lisääntyminen edesauttavat viihdepalveluiden tarjonnan monipuolistumista. Open Access ja triple-play ovat tulevaisuuden termejä. Viihteen lisäksi myös muilla eri osa-alueilla kuten työelämässä, sairaaloissa ja kouluissa on tarvetta laajakaistaisille monipalveluille.

Technologies are going fast ahead and new network technologies are coming into existence. Challenges are to find most suitable network technology to certain area and in some cases there is a need to make a compromise solution. A short range wireless communication technologies are suitable for instance scattered settlement and skerries, if pulling a fibre to those areas is not possible. In this thesis there will be brought out those wired and wireless technologies which are at the moment or in the future significant for South-Karelia. Some of the technologies may not be in used after ten years from now or they can be combined and turned into something else. As a result of this thesis is a survey which shows us a vision, what might the situation be in South-Karelia in a year 2018. We know already that Sonera is bringing down the whole phone-network system in a next few years and fibre can be used while working with the sewer system. Usage of the bandwidth in the future and increasing amount of several services connive entertainment services to be a more versatile. Open Access and triple-play are the terms of the future. In addition to entertainment also other different kind of areas as a working life, hospitals and schools need broadband multiservices.
