Preservation and Management of Added Value in Networked R&D environment

Tämä tutkielma käsittelee lisäarvon syntymistä, ylläpitämistä ja hallintaa verkostoi-tuneessa tuotekehitysympäristössä. Teemahaastattelu-menetelmää käyttäen, tavoitteena on tunnistaa ja kuvata ne prosessit, käytännöt ja toimintatavat, joissa kohdeyritys on onnistunut ja joissa lisäarvoa on syntynyt. Toinen keskeinen tavoite on löytää ongelmalliset alueet lisäarvon tuottamisessa ja analysoida, miksi nämä alueet ovat ongelmallisia. Käsitteiden arvo, arvoketju ja arvoverkosto, sekä viitekirjallisuuden esimerkkien perusteella muodostetaan teoreettinen viitekehys ja kuvataan niitä hyödyllisiä toimintatapoja ja käytäntöjä, joihin panostamalla lisäarvoa syntyy. Erityisesti informaatioteknologian alalla verkostoituminen ja arvoverkosto ovat yhä merkittävämpiä tuotekehityksen toimintatapoja, mihin horisontaalisen yhteistyön kehittyminen, globalisoituminen ja informaatioteknologian nopea kehitys on johtanut. Keskeisiä tuloksia ovat tarve yhtenäisempään, prosessinomaisempaan toimintatapaan ja liiketoimintaprosessien muokkaamiseen verkostoituneen T&K ympäristön vaatimusten mukaisesti. Myös tarve paremman näkyvyyden luomiseen sekä aktiviteettien hallintaan uudentyyppisen arvoverkoston vaatimusten mukaisesti korostui tuloksissa.

This master’s thesis handles creation, preservation and management of added value in networked research and development environment. By using theme interviews, the aim is to recognise those processes, practises and modes of operation, where case company has succeeded and where the added value has been created. Another important target is to find problematic areas in producing added value and analyse, why these areas are problematic. By using terms value, value chain and value network and examples from source literature, the theoretical framework will be created. Especially in Information Technology branch, the networking and value network are increasingly important modes of operation in R&D. These can be seen as results of horizontal co-operation development, globalisation and fast development of information technology. The main findings were the need for better, common and process-like way of operation and need for redefining business processes according to requirements set by networked R&D environment. Also the importance of visibility and management of activities in this kind of new value network according to requirements of environment is highlighted in the results.
