ICT-YRITYKSEN MENESTYKSEN ARVIOINTI TALOUDELLISEEN INFORMAATIOON PERUSTUEN

Tutkielman tavoitteena on selvittää, miten tilinpäätösanalyysi työkaluna soveltuu ICT-yritysten menestyksen arviointiin. Samalla pyritään tilinpäätösanalyysin avulla arvioimaan Kaakkois-Suomen ICT-klusterin taloudellinen tilanne. Tutkielman teoriaosassa tutustutaan uuden talouden erityispiirteiden vaikutuksiin tilinpäätösinformaation ja tilinpäätösanalyysin tulosten tulkinnassa. Empiirinen aineisto koostuu Kaakkois-Suomen ICT-klusterin tilinpäätöksistä, joista lasketaan valitut tunnusluvut. Näiden tunnuslukujen avulla pyritään arvioimaan yritysten menestystä ja selvittämään menestykseen vaikuttavia tekijöitä taloudellisesta näkökulmasta. Tutkimus on kvalitatiivinen ja tutkimusotteeltaan deskriptiivinen eli kuvaileva ja selittävä. Tutkimustulosten mukaan tilinpäätösanalyysi ei ole riittävä työkalu ICT-yritysten menestyksen arviointiin. Sen avulla on mahdollista kerätä yrityksistä pohjatietoa, jota tulee muiden keinojen mm. yrityshaastattelujen avulla täydentää. Tilinpäätösanalyysi osoittaa, että Kaakkois-Suomen ICT-yritysten taloudellinen tilanne on keskimääräisesti hyvä, mutta tulevaisuutta on mahdoton ennustaa. Koska kyseessä ei ole tilastollinen tutkimus, eikä kohdeyritysjoukko ole riittävä, ei tuloksia voi yleistää koskemaan kaikkia toimialan yrityksiä.

The objective of this study is to find out if the financial statement analysis is a suitable tool to estimate the success of ICT enterprises. The study also describes the financial situation of the ICT cluster in Southeast Finland through the financial statement analysis. The theoretical part of this thesis describes the special features of the New Economy in interpretation of financial statement information and analysis. The empirical data is gathered from financial ratios of financial statement analyses of Southeast ICT cluster. The purpose is to estimate the success of enterprises through financial ratios and to find out the features behind this success on a financial point of view. This study is qualitative and employs the descriptive analysis method. According to the results of this study, financial statement analysis is not an adequate tool to estimate the success of ICT enterprises. By using this tool it is possible to gather some basic information of the enterprises, but that must be complemented by interviews in enterprises. The results of financial statement analysis show that Southeast Finland ICT cluster is do-ing well in average. However prediction of future remains challenging. Because this is not a statistical study and target group is limited, the results of this study cannot be generalized to cover all enterprises of the industry.
