Etelä-Karjalan kasvualat 2000

Tutkimuksen tarkastelukohteena oli toimialarakenteen kehittyminen Etelä-Karjalan maakunnassa. Tutkimuksen päätavoitteena oli luoda selkeä kuva Etelä-Karjalan toimialarakenteen kehitystilanteesta ja eri toimialojen kasvuvauhdista. Keskeisenä alatavoitteena tutkimuksessa oli havaittujen kehityskulkujen taustalla olevien syiden selvittäminen. Tutkimuksessa ongelmaa lähestyttiin kvantitatiivisin ja kvalitatiivisin tutkimusmetodein. Tutkimuksessa luotiin teoreettinen viitekehys olemassa oleviin teorioihin ja tutkimuksiin perustuen. Tutkimuksessa analysoitiin tilastotiedon pohjalta toimialarakenteen kehittymistä Etelä-Karjalassa vuosina 1950-2000. Eri toimialojen kehitykseen vaikuttaneita seikkoja tutkimuksessa analysoitiin asiantuntijahaastatteluiden avulla. Tutkimuksessa todetaan kehityksen Etelä-Karjalassa keskittyneen neljään kuntaan, joissa metsäteollisuus on ollut vahvasti edustettuna. Metsäteollisuus on Etelä-Karjalan kasvualoista edelleen merkittävin, mutta sen merkitys on vähentynyt muiden toimialojen merkityksen kasvaessa. Tutkimuksessa Etelä-Karjalasta löydettiin näitä aidosti kasvavia toimialoja 12 kappaletta.

The central topic of this study was the development of the industrial structure of South-Karelia. The main objective of the study was to create a clear description of the development of the industrial structure and to evaluate the growth rate of different industries. A secondary objective of the study was the examination of causatives which have affected the development. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were used. The theoretical framework of the study was created based on existing theories and research. The development of the industrial structure in South-Karelia between the years 1950-2000 was analyzed statistically. Causatives of the development were evaluated with expert interviews. The results of the study show that industrial development in South-Karelia is concentrated in the four municipalities where the forest industry is the most significant. The forest industry is still the most important industry but it has been losing its importance to other industries. 12 other growth industries were also identified in the study.
