Web-palvelut ja niiden käyttö tietojärjestelmän rajapintojen toteutuksessa.

Työssä luodaan yleiskuva Web-palvelut -tekniikasta ja toteutetaan sen avulla kahden tietojärjestelmän integrointi. Web-palvelut on uusi toteutustekniikasta riippumaton lähestymistapa tietojärjestelmien integrointiin, organisaatioiden väliseen sähköiseen liiketoimintaan ja sovelluslogiikan hajautukseen. Työssä keskitytään Web-palveluiden alemman tason perusteknologioiden (SOAP, WSDL ja UDDI) tarkasteluun. Työn teoriaosassa määritellään Web-palvelut ja kuvataan Web-palveluiden arkkitehtuuri sekä arkkitehtuurin toteuttavat standardit. Soveltavassa osassa toteutetaan kahden tietojärjestelmän integrointi Web-palveluiden avulla. Web-palveluiden käyttöä ja luontia helpottamaan toteutettiin yleiskäyttöinen komponentti, jota voidaan käyttää myöhemmin muissa vastaavissa projekteissa. Työssä tarkastellaan Web-palveluiden käytettävyyttä organisaation tietojärjestelmien sisäisessä integroinnissa ja sovelluslogiikan hajautuksessa. Tarkastelun tuloksena todetaan, että Web-palvelut on tällä hetkellä keskeneräinen tekniikka ja soveltuu toistaiseksi vain yksinkertaisten ongelmien ratkaisemiseen. Tulevaisuudessa Web-palveluilla on kuitenkin edellytykset yleistyä sekä integroinnin että sovelluslogiikan hajautuksen perustekniikkana.

The aim of this master’s thesis was to study Web services technique and integrate two information systems with this new technique. Web services are a technology independent approach for enterprise application integration, dynamic e-business in Internet and distributing application logic over a network. Main targets of the study are the lower level technologies of Web Services stack (SOAP, WSDL, UDDI). The theoretical part defines Web services and describes the architecture and the standards of the technique. The empiric part describes how two information systems are integrated with Web services. General-purpose component for creating and using Web services is also designed and constructed. This component can be used later in similar projects. In addition, the usability of Web services in enterprise application integration and distributing application logic over a network is studied more closely. As a result, the lack of maturity in Web services technique is discovered and Web services are recommended only for simple problems for now. On the other hand, Web services technique has the capability to progress and be successful technique in the future.
