Controlling Access to Personal Information

Tässä diplomityössä käsitellään henkilökohtaisen tiedon saannin kontrollointia ja tiedon kuvaamista. Työn käytännön osuudessa suunniteltiin XML –malli henkilökohtaisen tiedon kuvaamiseen. Henkilökohtaisten tietojen käyttäminen mahdollistaa henkilökohtaisen palvelun tarjoamisen ja myös palvelun automatisoinnin käyttäjälle. Henkilökohtaisen tiedon kuvaaminen on hyvin oleellista, jotta palvelut voivat kysellä ja ymmärtää tietoja. Henkilökohtaiseen tietoon vaikuttaa erilaisia tekijöitä, jotka on myös otettava huomioon tietoa kuvattaessa. Henkilökohtaisen tiedon leviäminen eri palveluiden tarjoajille tuo mukanaan myös riskejä. Henkilökohtaisen tiedon joutuminen väärän henkilön käsiin saattaa aiheuttaa vakaviakin ongelmia tiedon omistajalle. Henkilökohtaisen tiedon turvallisen ja luotettavan käytettävyyden kannalta onkin hyvin oleellista, että käyttäjällä on mahdollisuus kontrolloida kenelle hän haluaa luovuttaa mitäkin tietoa.

This thesis presents a notation that enables the user to control access to his personal information. The practical part of the thesis was to design a XML –schema for the personal information notation. Usage of the personal information enables personalization and automation of the services. The personal information notation is essential for services to be able to request and understand the personal information of the service user. The automation of the services prevents the user from typing the same information over and over again. There are some attributes for personal information that need to be considered while creating the personal information notation. Propagation of the personal information into hands of the service providers has also brought a great concern of security. Personal information of the user in hands of outsider might cause some serious harm for the user. Preventing privacy the user should have a control of deciding which personal information he wants to provide to which service provider.
