Wastewater Treatment of Diesel Power Plant

Diplomityön tavoitteena on selvittää Wärtsilän dieselvoimalaitosten jätevedenkäsittelyn vallitseva tila. Tutkimuksessa keskitytään raskaspolttoöljykäyttöisiin voimalaitoksiin. Työssä selvitetään yleisimmät dieselvoimalaitosten jätevesille asetetut vaatimukset. Selvitys tehdään keräämälläja tutkimalla dieselvoimalaitosten jätevesille sovellettuja standardeja. Työssä selvitetään myös dieselvoimalaitokselta ulostulevan jäteveden laatu sekä nykyisen jätevedenkäsittelyjärjestelmän toiminta. Selvitys tehdään keräämällä ja tutkimalla yrityksen sisäisiä tietoja, sekä ottamalla ja analysoimalla jätevesinäytteitä. Näytteiden otto ja analysointi toteutetaan vierailemallakahdessa voimalaitoksessa sekä yhdessä muussa kohteessa. Jäteveden laatu ennen ja jälkeen käsittelyn määritetään. Myös öljynjalostusteollisuuden jätevedenkäsittelyä tarkastellaan kirjallisuuteen pohjautuen. Tarkastelun tavoitteena on hankkia tietoa jätevedenkäsittelystä kohteissa, joissa jäteveden laatu vastaa dieselvoimalaitoksella syntyvää jätevettä. Vertailun vuoksi myös öljynjalostusteollisuudelle asetetuttuja jätevesistandardeja tutkitaan. Lisäksi työssä tutkitaan myös joitakin muita jätevedenkäsittelymenetelmiä. Diplomityön tuloksena määritetään dieselvoimalaitosten jätevedenkäsittelyn tulevaisuuden haasteet ja mahdollisuudet.

The objective of thethesis is to clarify the prevailing situation in the field of the wastewater treatment of Wärtsilä diesel power plants. The study concentrates on the power plants running on heavy fuel oil. In the thesis the typical requirements for the wastewaters of the diesel power plants are clarified. This is done by collecting and studying standards applied to the wastewaters of the plants. The quality of the wastewater from the power plant and the function of the current wastewater treatment system are also clarified. This is done by collecting and studying the existing in-house information, as well as by sampling and analyzing the wastewaters. The sampling and analyzing are carried out by visiting two different power plants and one other target. The qualities of the wastewatersbefore and after the treatment system are determined. Literature study of the wastewater treatment in oil refining industry is also done. The purpose of the literature study is to provide information about the treatment methods in applications with similar types of wastewaters. The standards defined for the wastewater discharges from the oil refineries are studied as well, for comparison. Furthermore, some optional wastewater treatment methods are studied in the thesis. As a result of the thesis the future challenges and opportunities in the wastewater treatment of the diesel power plants are indicated.
