Item master management in the engineer-to-order supply chain

Diplomityöntavoitteena on tutkia, kuinka nimiketiedon hallinnalla voidaan parantaa kustannustehokkuutta projektiohjautuvassa toimitusketjussa. Työn kohdeyritys on Konecranes Oyj:n tytäryhtiö Konecranes Heavy Lifting Oy. Nimiketiedon hallinta liittyy läheisesti tuotetiedon hallintaan. Teoriaosassa käsitellään toimitusketjuympäristön tekijöitä, modulaarisuuden ja asiakaskohtaisuuden ongelmallisuutta sekä informaatiovirran vaikutuksia eri toiminnoissa. Yritysosassa vertaillaan konsernitason kahta liiketoiminta-aluetta strategiavalintojen, tuotteiden modulaarisuuden sekä tilaus-toimitusprosessissa liikkuvan nimikeinformaation perusteella. Diplomityön tuloksena annetaan suuntaviivat; nimikemassan eheytykseen, strategisten nimikkeiden tunnistamiseen ja määrittämiseen, nimikkeiden hallintaan sekä master-datan sijoittamiseen tietojärjestelmäympäristöön.

The target of this thesis work is to show, how item master management can increase the cost-efficiency in engineer-to-order supply chain of Konecranes Heavy Lifting Oy. Item master management is related tothe concept of product data management. The theoretical studydescribes the factors of the supply chain environment, introduces the characteristics of modularity and order-specificity and goes through the challenges of information flow in business functions. The practical study compares the strategic decisions, degree of modularity and the flow of item information in order-delivery processes between two strategic business areas. As a result, thesis work gathers together needs for further development and points out the guidelines for harmonizing multiple item data, identifying and defining strategic items, establishing item mastering policies and positioning the item master data into IT-architecture.
