Katalysaattorin valmistuksen benchmarking

Työn tarkoituksena oli selvittää kilpailullisen benchmarkingin avulla Ecocat Oy:n käyttämien katalysaattoreiden valmistusmenetelmien suhdetta kilpailijoiden käyttämiin valmistusmenetelmiin, sekä tehdä benchmarking-tiedon pohjalta johtopäätöksiä ja ehdotuksia valmistusmenetelmien kehittämisestä. Tutkimuksen runkonatoimi benchmarking-prosessimalli, joka oli yhdistelmä kolmesta työn teoriaosassa esitellystä benchmarking-prosessimallista. Tiedon keruu benchmarkingia varten tapahtui käyttämällä hyväksi julkisten lähteiden lisäksi yrityksen sisäisiä tietolähteitä ja yrityksen ulkopuolisia kontakteja. Kerätyn tiedon pohjalta laadittiin kuvaukset Ecocatin ja sen kilpailijoiden käyttämistä valmistusmenetelmistä, tuotteista ja kustannuksista. Laadittujen kuvausten pohjalta suoritettiin vertailua menetelmien, tuotteiden ja kustannusten kesken. Tutkimuksessa havaittiin että Ecocatin käyttämät valmistusmenetelmät ovat kilpailukykyisiäja hyvin samankaltaisia kuin kilpailijoilla. Valmistusmenetelmien kehitysehdotusten tekemiseen kilpailullinen benchmarking antoi niukasti tietoa. Menetelmien kehittämiseen soveltuisikin paremmin jokin toinen benchmarking-tekniikka ja avoimempi benchmarking-yhteistyö.

The purpose of this thesis was to compare manufacturing methods of catalytic converters between Ecocat Oy and its competitors, by using competitive benchmarking. Conclusions and suggestions on how manufacturing methods could be developed were made on the basis of benchmarking information. The framework of the study was a benchmarking process model, a combination of three models introduced in the theoretical section of the thesis. Public sources, as well as information sources inside Ecocat and personal contacts of managers in Ecocat were used in collecting benchmarking information. Based on gathered information, descriptions of Ecocat's and its competitors' manufacturing methods, products and costs were compiled. Comparisons between methods, products and costs were made by using preceding descriptions. Based on the research results, manufacturing methods used in Ecocat are competitive and also quite similar to methods used by Ecocat's competitors. Competitive benchmarking didn't give much information for development suggestions. Another benchmarking technique or more open benchmarking co-operation would be more suitable for development work of this kind.
