The world of short stories is vast and often complicated. One of the main intentionsbehind this work is to create an introduction of some basic notions related to shortstories. Nevertheless, we focus on a particular type of short story: folktales. Kinder- undHausmärchen by Jacob und Wilhelm Grimm is one of the greatest models of folktales. For this reason we have selected one of Grimm’s tales entitled Vom Fischer und seinerFrau (The fisherman and his wife) to make a comparative analysis of three Spanishtranslations and a study underlining how the passing of time and the evolution oflanguage affect in translations, which derive from the same original text. Thetranslations used date from 1879, 1956 and 1985. The hypothesis from which the studystarts is that there should be a minimal difference between the three translations thatderive from the same original, and that the existing differences are related to languageevolution. Nevertheless the results are opposite to the initial hypothesis and they havecaused a number of issues for which no response has been obtained and, therefore, areopen to discussion
