Vocalization of the shrew Suncus etruscus and Crocidura during normothermia and torpor

While frequency and call duration are independent of body temperature, the tremolo structure shows a spreading correlated with falling body temperature. The particular calls emitted during torpor are defence calls, modified by merely physiological factors. Their main function might be of intraspecific nature
