Spain in Europe 2004-2008

In March of 2004, the Observatory of European Foreign Policy published a special monograph about Spain in Europe (1996-2004) in digital format. The objective of the monograph was to analyse Spain’s foreign policy agenda and strategy during the period of José María Aznar’s presidency. As the title suggests, one of the initial suppositions of the analysis is the Europeanization of Spanish foreign activities. Is that how it was? Did Aznar’s Spain see the world and relate to it through Brussels? The publication was well received, considering the number of visits received and above all the institutions which asked to link the publication to their web pages. Among these, the EUobserver published the introduction to the piece in English titled Aznar: thinking locally, acting in Europe (described by the EUobserver as a paper of utmost importance). The fact that the elections were held three days after the tragic events of the 11th of March dramatically increased interest in Spain and the implications for Europe. This publication is the second of its type, in this case analysing the period of the Zapatero government (2004-2008). Once again the starting premise (the Europeanization of the agenda and the methods employed) has been considered by the analysts. And once again the articles collected in this publication serve to “triangulate” the analysis. Spain and Europe are two vertices (more or less distant, in essence and in form) which the authors handle in their analysis of the case (third vertex).

Al març de 2004, l'Observatori de Política Exterior Europea va publicar una monografia especial sobre Espanya a Europa (1996-2004) en format digital. L'objectiu d'aquesta monografia és analitzar l'agenda de política exterior d'Espanya i de l'estratègia durant el període de la presidència de José María Aznar. Com suggereix el títol, un dels supòsits inicials de l'anàlisi és l'europeïtzació d'Espanya activitats a l'estranger. És que com era? Sabia Espanya d'Aznar veure el món i relacionar-s'hi a través de Brussel · les? La publicació va ser ben rebuda, tenint en compte el nombre de visites rebudes i per sobre de totes les institucions que van demanar vincular la publicació de les seves pàgines web. Entre aquests, el EUobserver publicat la introducció de la peça en Anglès titulat Aznar: pensar localment, actuar a Europa (descrit pel EUobserver com un paper molt important). El fet que les eleccions es van dur a terme tres dies després dels tràgics esdeveniments del 11 de març dramàticament augmentat l'interès a Espanya i les conseqüències per a Europa. Aquesta publicació és la segona del seu tipus, en aquest cas l'anàlisi del període del govern de Zapatero (2004-2008). Un cop més la premissa de partida (l'europeïtzació de l'agenda i els mètodes empleats), ha estat considerat pels analistes. I un cop més els articles recollits en aquesta publicació servirà per "triangular" l'anàlisi. Espanya i Europa són dos vèrtexs (més o menys llunyà, en el fons i en la forma) que manegen els autors en la seva anàlisi del cas (tercer vèrtex).
