Pode a concentração mediática contribuir para a precariedade na profissão de jornalista?: o caso dos despedimentos no «Jornal de Notícias»

O tema desta dissertação surge na sequência do estágio curricular realizado no «Jornal de Notícias», redacção Porto, numa altura em que o grupo Controlinveste, ao qual pertence este órgão de comunicação, procedeu ao despedimento colectivo de 122 trabalhadores. Na primeira parte da dissertação são relatadas as experiências mais marcantes de três meses de estágio na secção de Polícia e Tribunais do «Jornal de Notícias» e é apresentada uma breve descrição do jornal e do grupo económico em este que se insere. Na segunda parte é feita uma reflexão teórica sobre o movimento de concentração dos meios de comunicação social e a sua relação com a profissão de jornalista. O objectivo é tentar perceber se a concentração mediática pode contribuir para a precariedade na profissão e se coloca limitações ao exercício da autonomia jornalística, sobretudo no que respeita às questões éticas e deontológicas. Finalmente são apresentadas as visões de três jornalistas despedidos do «Jornal de Notícias» e de dois que ainda continuam em funções, acerca das questões abordadas no enquadramento teórico. O testemunho destes profissionais tem por base a experiência e as vivências de cada um na redacção do referido jornal.

The subject of this thesis was chosen after my internship at «Jornal de Notícias», in Oporto, at the time when the Controlinveste group, owner of the newspaper, fired 122 workers. The first part of the dissertation reports the most significant experiences of the three months spent as trainee in the section called «Polícia e Tribunais» of «Jornal de Notícias». It also contains a brief presentation of the newspaper and of the media group to which it belongs. In the second part, a theoretical reflection on the concentration of media ownership and its relationship with the journalist profession is presented. It aims at an attempt to understand if media concentration is one of the factors that may lead to a deterioration of the labour conditions and if it is imposing limits to journalistic autonomy, especially in what concerns ethical and deontological issues. At last, the insight of three journalists, fired from «Jornal de Notícias», is presented, as well as the perspectives of two more professionals who still work in the newspaper on the topics established in the theoretical part. The contribution of these five professionals is based on their personal experiences while working as journalists.
