Os mass media como agentes educadores para a saúde

O objecto de estudo deste relatório consiste na análise do jornalismo de saúde, mais concretamente no seu valor como agente educativo. O tema começou a ser delineado durante um estágio de três meses no Diário de Notícias - de 22 de Setembro a 22 e Dezembro de 2008 -, onde foi possível entrar nos meandros da produção noticiosa e trabalhar de uma forma mais intensa em temas de saúde. Assim, o primeiro ponto do relatório passa por descrever algumas actividades realizadas durante o estágio, assim como um resumo da história do Diário de Notícias. De forma a ajudar no desenvolvimento do relatório, foi tida em conta uma pergunta de partida que serviu de premissa para a investigação – Serão os mass media agentes educadores para a saúde? Para a abordagem e exploração do tema foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica sobre jornalismo científico, especialidade na qual é possível enquadrar as especificidades do jornalismo de saúde. Posteriormente foi possível explorar as características do conceito de saúde e a evolução no tratamento jornalístico do tema, tanto a nível internacional como nacional. Foram igualmente analisadas as particularidades do jornalismo de saúde no que respeita às fontes mais utilizadas, à relação dos jornalistas com os profissionais de saúde e às expectativas do público quanto ao papel do jornalista especializado neste ramo. Numa fase final, foi realizada uma análise quantitativa das notícias de saúde do Diário de Notícias relativas ao mês de Março de 2009. Com a análise noticiosa e a pesquisa bibliográfica foi possível delinear um enquadramento geral das características do jornalismo de saúde, assim como responder à pergunta que ditou toda a investigação.

The study purpose of this report consists on analysing the Health Journalism, specifically in its value as an educational agent. The subject started to be outlined during a three month training post in the newspaper “Diário de Notícias” – from September 22nd till December 22nd 2008 – where it was possible to start knowing the world of producing news and to work in a more intense way the health issues. So, the first point of this report describes some activities that took place during the training post, as well as a summary of “Diário de Notícias” history. In order to help the development of the report a question was taken into account which was the starting premise for the research – Are the media educational agents for health? For the approach and investigation of the topic, it was done a bibliographical research on scientific journalism, in which health journalism and its specificness can be integrated. Later it was possible to explore the characteristics of health concept and the evolution of its journalistic treatment, both international and national levels. The health journalism and its particularities were also analysed in relation to the most common sources, to the journalists as health professionals and to the public expectations about the role of specialized journalist. In a final phase a quantitative analysis of health news in “Diário de Notícias” referring to March 2009 was carried out. With the news analysis and the bibliographical research it was possible to outline a general framework of the characteristics of health journalism as well as to answer the question that inspired all the research.
