Dissertation presented to obtain the Ph.D degree in Biochemistry Pentachlorophenol (PCP) is a synthetic compound introduced as a wood preservative and used for decades in agricultural and industrial applications. Today, the production and use of PCP is restricted due to its toxicity and environmental impact. However, extensive use in the past and its environmental persistence has resulted in substantial contamination of PCP worldwide. The detection of PCP in the human population and in remote environments, such as the Arctic, is still being reported.(...) |
