Death cabaret: porque os mortos viajam depressa

Este projecto tinha como objectivo repensar o Cabaret Alemão dos anos 20/30, à luz da atualidade e da nossa sociedade. Fazer renascer o cabaret Alemão, que foi o mais polémico e politico dos cabarets da Europa, foi o que inspirou o Death Cabaret. Estando a Europa a passar (novamente, mas de outra forma) por uma época governada por Alemães, fazia todo o sentido um espetáculo com estas características. O universo “mortos-vivos” veio de um gosto pessoal pelo género, e foi inspirado nos filmes do realizador Tim Burton. Os problemas na Europa e pelo mundo pioraram e o que era apenas um “gosto” tornou-se numa constatação; a Europa está perto do abismo, da morte! Desta minha reflexão, começaram a nascer as personagens: um Alemão, um Grego, uma Portuguesa, uma Francesa e uma Egípcia - que inicialmente parecia não se encaixar, mas que é perfeita, porque simboliza o passado, é imortal. Ela é a que está mais próxima do divino e com a sua sabedoria compreende bem a humanidade. Todas estas personagens foram inspiradas em acontecimentos históricos, mitologia, personagens que eu pesquisei. Em parceria com o Michel Simeão criei este texto. Uma reflexão sobre a atualidade politica, social, económica e que fala da humanidade, dos artistas, do mundo! Um texto cru, controverso que, certamente, nem todos vão apreciar! Em geral o resultado foi positivo e tivemos citações e testemunhos muito bons sobre o espetáculo, as pessoas ficavam presas até ao fim, percebiam a mensagem e não sentiam o Death Cabaret como uma lição de moral ou uma posição partidária. É por isso que ele vai continuar a viajar pelo mundo, porque tem muito que descobrir!

ABSTRACT - The aim of this project was to reconstruct the German Cabaret from the 20’s/30’s and combine it with nowadays reality. Always controversial and political, the German Cabaret inspired us to revive those times through Death Cabaret. Since that Europe is being once again governed by Germany, it all made sense to present a play with the most provocative aspects of that time. The imaginary of the “living dead” came from a personal taste of that genre, also inspired by some of Tim Burton’s films. The European problems got worse and what began as a personal feeling turned into a fact: Europe is getting closer to the abyss, to destruction! From these thoughts, some characters appeared in my mind: a German, a Greek, a Portuguese, French and an Egyptian - although in the beginning it seemed that this last character couldn’t fit, in fact she is really perfect because she represents the past and the immortality. She is closer to the divine and with her wisdom she truly understands the human being. All the characters were inspired by some personal events, the mythology and the history of humanity. Together with Michel Simeão I’ve created this play, which is a reflection of nowadays politics, society and economy – in other words, the world! It’s a harsh, controversial play, certainly not appreciated by everyone! In the end the result was positive. We received great reviews with people telling the play caught their attention till the last minute. They understood the message and on the contrary they didn’t feel as if Death Cabaret was some kind of a moral lesson or a partisan position. That's why he will continue to travel the world, because it has a lot to discover!
