Perfil de risco do investidor: diferenças entre homens e mulheres

As estatísticas mostram que os homens e as mulheres têm diferentes estratégias de investimento. Normalmente, os homens tendem a escolher investimentos mais arriscados e as mulheres tendem a favorecer os investimentos menos arriscados. A teoria financeira indica que os indivíduos são avessos ao risco, em geral, e alguns estudos anteriores mostram que as mulheres são mais avessas ao risco do que os homens. Este trabalho investigou essa questão abordando a seguinte pergunta: há alguma diferença entre homens e mulheres na forma como investem e encaram o risco? Para justificar a questão levantada recorreu-se a um estudo metodológico quantitativo realizado através de um questionário, com base em 20 questões que analisam o perfil de risco e tipo de investimentos dos particulares e tenta compreender a diferença entre homens e mulheres na escolha das suas carteiras de investimento. O universo deste questionário foi a população portuguesa activa, residente em Portugal Continental e nas Regiões Autónomas dos Açores e da Madeira, com idade superior a 18 anos e que detenham, pelo menos, um produto financeiro. Os resultados que se confirmaram com este estudo são que as mulheres, em geral, são menos tolerantes ao risco do que os homens.

The statistics has shown that men and women have different investing strategies. Usually, men tend to choose riskier investments and women lean towards less risky investments. The financial theory states that individuals are risk averse in general and some previous studies have shown that women are more averse so than men. This paper researches this issue by addressing the following question: are there any gender differences in the way they invest and face the risk tolerance? A quantitative methodological study was carried out by handing questionnaires, based on a 20 questions that analyze the risk profile and the type of investments for individuals and try to understand a difference between men and women in their choice of investment portfolios. The target population was the active Portuguese population, residing in Portugal, aged more that 18 years, and at least has one financial product. The results of this study confirm that women, in general, are less risk tolerant then men.
