Da criatividade linguística à tradução : uma abordagem das unidades polilexicais em Mia Couto

O estudo que apresentamos é sobre criatividade e a sua motivação no léxico, em particular na neologia estilística, amálgamas e fraseologias, com base em dados de Mia Couto. Descrever-se-ão as diferentes manipulações que o autor opera sobre as unidades lexicais e fraseológicas, tentando entender como funcionam e preenchem os objetivos estilísticos pretendidos. O objetivo principal da presente tese é demonstrar que o exercício da tradução pressupõe um conhecimento profundo do texto a traduzir que se realizará através da leitura e da desconstrução do processo de escrita, através da identificação das marcas criativas do sujeito, para depois reconstruir o texto na língua-alvo, tendo em conta que o texto a traduzir apresenta alteridades. Do objetivo principal decorre a importância das opções linguísticas, que se situam nas margens da convencionalidade, e a construção das significações que as opções linguísticas acarretam quando confrontadas com a língua, entidade abstrata e partilhada pelos falantes. Ao longo da presente tese, permanece em filigrana o objetivo acima enunciado. É nossa intenção mostrar que o conhecimento explícito dos mecanismos linguísticos pode ser uma mais-valia para a tradução literária. A análise das traduções francesas das obras de MC pretende mostrar que quando o conhecimento explícito não existe por parte dos tradutores, as perdas de conteúdo, sentido e intencionalidade discursiva tendem a aumentar. As opções linguísticas do autor evidenciam o conceito de criatividade que será analisado no capítulo 1. No capítulo seguinte, far-se-á uma introdução ao autor, à obra e a respetiva contextualização. No capítulo 3, propõe-se estabelecer relações entre a criatividade linguística e o discurso literário através duma análise da língua de MC. O capitulo 4 incidirá na relação entre criatividade e tradução. O último capítulo conterá três experiências de tradução: experiência1 – tradução de amálgamas, experiência 2 – tradução de fraseologia e experiência 3 – tradução de textos curtos de Mia Couto. Procurar-se-á refletir sobre o perfil do tradutor, um perfil exigente e dinâmico e inserido em pressupostos de aceitação da diferença (alteridade).

The study we present is about creativity and its motivation in the lexicon, particularly in stylistic neology, blends and phraseologies, based on data from Mia Couto. It will describe the various processes that the author operates on the lexical and phraseological units, trying to understand how they work and meet the desired stylistic goals. The aim of this dissertation is to demonstrate that the exercise of translation requires a thorough knowledge of the text to be translated that is done through reading and of deconstruction of the writing process, by identifying the creative marks of the subject, and then reconstructing the text in the target language, given that the text to be translated presents differences that characterize it and create its own identity. From the overall aim stated above stems the importance of linguistic choices, which, in most cases, are located on the fringes of conventionality, and the construction of meanings that linguistic choices imply when confronted with the language, an abstract entity shared by its speakers. The above-stated aim is always present throughout this dissertation. We intend to show that the explicit knowledge of linguistic mechanisms can be an asset for literary translation. The analysis of the French translations of MC’s works intends to show that when the translators lack the explicit knowledge, the loss of content, meaning and discursive intentionality tends to increase. The linguistic choices of the author show the concept of creativity that will be analyzed in Chapter 1. The following chapter provides an introduction to the author, his work and its context. Chapter 3 proposes to establish relationships between linguistic creativity and literary discourse through a detailed analysis of the language of MC. Chapter 4 will focus on the relationship between creativity and translation. The last chapter will focus on three translation experiments: experiment 1 - translation of blends; experiment 2 - translation of phraseology; and experiment 3 – translation of short texts by Mia Couto. We will try to reflect on the profile of the translator, a demanding and dynamic profile, based on assumptions of acceptance of difference (otherness).
