Um estudo exploratório sobre a relação existente entre as representações sócio-profissionais e as escolhas educativas dos filhos

Este estudo enquadra-se no âmbito da Observação e Análise da Relação Educativa, tomadas como instrumentos fundamentais de estudo dos principais factores de decisão no que diz respeito às escolhas educativas dos jovens. Ao longo dos séculos a família foi encarada como um núcleo determinante na formação dos indivíduos. Podemos, então, afirmar que a família transmite de forma espontânea os primeiros conhecimentos sobre a vida e o mundo que rodeia a criança. O objecto do estudo assenta na vontade de perceber até que ponto os filhos se deixam influenciar pelas representações sócio-profissionais dos pais, no sentido de fazerem opções educativas. Por conseguinte, tais representações poder-nos-ão conduzir a um entendimento dos principais factores que estão na base das suas opções ao nível da escolha da profissão. Todo o gizar da investigação empírica desenvolve-se, assim, em torno da seguinte questão central: que aspectos valorizam particularmente os alunos na escolha da sua profissão? Não nos interessa estudar todo o tipo de alunos, independentemente do nível social, mas sim os alunos pertencentes a classes social e/ou culturalmente favorecidas. A personalidade humana, o indivíduo livre de qualquer forma de absolutismo e de plenos direitos e a sua socialização, assim como o papel educador e socializador da família, perpassam como o leit-motif das preocupações mais profundas do nosso estudo. Ao nível da metodologia recorreremos à Estatística Descritiva, como técnica exploratória e utilizámos um Modelo de Equações Estruturais, técnica confirmatória dos dados, o que nos levou a concluir que existe uma relação entre as representações sócio-profissionais dos pais e as escolhas educativas dos filhos.

This study is developed based upon the Observation and Analysis of the Educational Relationship, which are perceived as fundamental study instruments of the main factors of decision in what concerns young people’s educational choices. Throughout the centuries, family has been regarded as a determining nucleus in the formation of the individual. Based on this assumption, we can then claim that the family transmits, in a spontaneous way, the first real knowledge on life and the world surrounding the child. The object of study builds on the will to understand how far children are influenced by the social and professional representations of their parents, when making educational choices. Therefore, such representations may lead us to an understanding of the main factors on the basis of their options in what regards the choice of their professions. The empirical investigation is developed around the following central question: which are the features that are more valued by the students when choosing their career? We are not interested in studying all kinds of students, regardless of their social background, so we are focusing only on students belonging to more favoured social and/or cultural backgrounds. The human personality, the individual freed from any sort of absolutism and with full rights and his socialization, as well as the educational and socializing role of the family, are the deepest concerns of our study. Concerned to methodology, we used the Descriptive Statistic, followed by a Structural Equation Modeling, a confirmatory technique, which leads us to verify a relationship between the socio-professional representations of the parents and the educational choices of their offspring.
