As barreiras urbanas no tecido da cidade

As barreiras urbanas são elementos estruturantes no território urbano das cidades. No entanto, pouco é discutido referente aos seus papéis. Durante a evolução das cidades, as barreiras tornaram-se elementos de sobrevivência, defesa e desenvolvimento, desempenhando importantes limites ou polos de atração na cidade. Importantes barreiras urbanas, como rios, declives, fortificações, caminhos-de-ferro, vias rápidas e infraestruturas de comunicação, foram e são importantes, pois organizam o crescimento da cidade, além de representarem a imagem ou o desenvolvimento da urbe. A cidade do Porto, o caso de estudo, não é exceção. Desde os primórdios assenta sobre as barreiras naturais, desenvolve-se e cresce, numa primeira fase devido a essas barreiras, mas sobretudo às barreiras urbanas construídas pelo Homem que aparecem a partir da era da industrialização. Numa primeira fase do trabalho, analisa-se o estudo da evolução das cidades, desde o assentamento do primeiro aglomerado até à cidade dos dias de hoje, os principais pontos da civilização e o papel das barreiras naturais e humanizadas, em cada período. Na segunda fase, a evolução da cidade em estudo, o Porto, e as principais barreiras urbanas no crescimento da urbe. E por fim, a análise do atual tecido urbano da cidade do Porto referente às barreiras que subsistiram.

Urban barriers are structural elements in the urban area of the city. However, little is discussed regarding their roles. During the evolution of cities, the barriers have become elements of survival, protection and development, playing important limits or attraction poles in the city. Important urban barriers, such as rivers, slopes, fortifications, railways, highways and communication infrastructure, were and are important as they organize the growth of the city, besides representing the city's image or the development of the city. The city of Porto, the case study is no exception. Since the beginning based on natural barriers, develops and grows, initially because of these barriers, but especially to urban barriers built by man appear from the age of industrialization. In a first phase of work, analyses the study of the evolution of cities, from the settlement of the first cluster to the city of today, the main points of civilization and the role of natural and humanized barriers in each period. In the second phase, the evolution of the city under study, the Porto, and the main barriers to urban growth of the city. Finally, analysis of the current Porto city urban fabric related to barriers that have survived.
