A note on the analysis of the dispersion equation for surface magnetoplasmons in the Faraday configuration

The analysis of the dispersion equation for surface magnetoplasmons in the Faraday configuration for the degenerate case of decaying constants being equal is given from the point of view of understanding the non-existence of the “degenerate modes”. This analysis also shows that there exist well defined “degenerate points” on the dispersion curve with electromagnetic fields varying linearly over small distances taken away from the interface.

A note on the movement of single large liquid bubbles in vertical tubes

The flow of single large liquid bubbles under gravity in closed tubes is studied here for the case when the liquid bubble exhibits micropolar behaviour. The film thickness, velocity profile in the bubble and film, and nonNewtonian effects are studied and compared with those for the correspondingNewtonian fluid. The investigation is restricted to the case where the bubble length is far greater than the tube radius.

A Note on Easily Testable Realizations for Logic Functions

It is shown that at most, n + 3 tests are required to detect any single stuck-at fault in an AND gate or a single faulty EXCLUSIVE OR (EOR) gate in a Reed-Muller canonical form realization of a switching function.

A note on synthesis of the general, two-degree-of-freedom linkage

A graphical method is presented for synthesis of the general, seven-link, two-degree-of-freedom plane linkage to generate functions of two variables. The method is based on point position reduction and permits synthesis of the linkage to satisfy upto six arbitrarily selected precision positions.

Note on the Helmholtz instability in stratified flows with magnetic fields

The nature of the neutral curves for the stability of a Helmholtz velocity profile in a stratified, Boussinesq fluid in the presence of a uniform magnetic field for the cases (1) an infinite fluid (2) a semi-infinite fluid with a rigid boundary is discussed.

Note on stereo-diagrams of molecules

The paper elucidates a simple way ooJ'dcriving the coordinates for &awing sfereo-&gram of molecules. This method is an alternative, but not a substitute, to the 'ORTEP (suggested by C. K. Johnsori) which, is extensively used in the literature. Illustrations are given using a progrunz which was written based on the method mentioned here. The program is also given in an appendix for practical help.

A Note on Minimal Reed-Muller Canonical Forms of Switching Functions

A nonexhaustive procedure for obtaining minimal Reed-Muller canonical (RMC) forms of switching functions is presented. This procedure is a modification of a procedure presented earlier in the literature and enables derivation of an upper bound on the number of RMC forms to be derived to choose a minimal one. It is shown that the task of obtaining minimal RMC forms is simplified in the case of symmetric functions and self-dual functions.
