Tratamentos com retardantes de crescimento vegetal foram estudados em plantas de Palma de Santa Rita (Gladiolus communis L. spp., Iridaceae) para avaliar a altura da planta, o número de folhas e botões florais, diâmetro do caule e comprimento da haste floral. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições e sete tratamentos (testemunha; aplicações de cloreto de mepiquat na concentração de 200mg.L-1, 3 e 6 vezes; cloreto de chlormequat na concentração de 200mg.L-1, 3 e 6 vezes e ethephon na concentração de 200mg.L-1, 3 e 6 vezes). Foram realizadas sete avaliações não destrutivas a cada sete dias e uma coleta final. Os tratamentos com ethephon proporcionaram redução da altura das plantas e do comprimento.

Objective: This study evaluated colour stability, hardness and roughness of soft denture liners after immersion in various cleansers. Materials and methods: Thirty specimens (14 mm x 4 mm) of Elite Soft Relining (ES) and Mucopren Soft (MS) were randomly immersed in distilled water at 37 degrees C, sodium hypochlorite 1%, and an experimental Ricinus communis solution (RC) for 7, 15 and 183 continuous days. Results: ANOVA (p < 0.05) and Tukey's test indicated that after T7 (mu =8.79 +/- 7.36); T15 (mu = 4.23 +/- 2.62) and T183 (mu = 8.78 +/- 3.16), MS presented a higher increase in hardness than ES. After T7, MS underwent an increase in roughness (mu = 0.09 +/- 0.80); ES underwent a decrease (mu = -0.08 +/- 0.16). RC caused the smallest variation in roughness. After T15, both materials presented an increase in roughness. After T183, ES (mu = -0.30 +/- 0.48) presented a higher roughness variation than MS (mu = -0.07 +/- 0.32). Hypochlorite caused an increase in roughness (mu = 0.02 +/- 0.19). Conclusion: After all periods ES presented higher colour alteration than MS; highest colour alteration was caused by hypochlorite. Both materials were more stable after immersion in RC.

Rhipicephalus sanguineus is a widely distributed tick species that has adapted to the urban environment, and the dog is its main host. This species is also known as a vector and reservoir of diseases caused by bacteria, protozoa, and viruses. Currently, acaricides of synthetic chemical origin have been widely and indiscriminately used, leading to the development of resistance to these products by ticks and causing damage to the environment. Thus, these issues have made it necessary to seek other forms of controlling these ectoparasites. R. sanguineus was artificially infested in host New Zealand White rabbits, which were divided into four treatment groups: control (CG1 and CG2) and treatment (TG1 and TG2) groups. TG1 and TG2 hosts were provided with feed supplemented with esters of ricinoleic acid from castor oil at a concentration of 5 g/kg of feed for 7 and 15 days. Afterward, the ovaries of the female ticks were removed for analysis by transmission electron microscopy. The results showed ultrastructural changes in the somatic and germ cells of ovaries from TG1 and TG2 females, particularly with respect to chorion deposition, a protective membrane of the oocyte, as well as in the transport process of vitellogenic materials via the hemolymph and pedicel cells. Moreover, the mitochondria were less electron-dense and had cristae that were more disorganized than the mitochondria from CG1 and CG2 individuals. Thus, this study demonstrated the action of esters on the ovaries of R. sanguineus, signaling the prospect of a way to control this ectoparasite without affecting nontarget organisms or the environment. This study evaluated Knoop hardness, surface roughness and color alteration of artificial teeth for dentures after immersion in water, 1% sodium hypochlorite and an experimental solution of 2% Ricinus communis (RC). Thirty specimens of Vipi, Biolux and Trilux were analyzed. Tests of Knoop hardness, surface roughness and color alteration were conducted immediately after specimen preparation (T0) and after two immersion protocols for 15 days (ΔT15) and 183 days (ΔT183). Data variation (ΔT) were subjected to ANOVA and Tukey's test (p<0.05). At ΔT15, Vipi presented hardness increase and Biolux presented the highest variation (p=0.01). RC caused the highest increase in hardness (p=0) and the lowest increase (p=0.005) in roughness. Biolux presented the lowest color alteration (p =0). At ΔT183, Trilux underwent the highest hardness variation (p=0). Biolux presented an increase in roughness (p=0). There was no significant differences in color alteration among the artificial teeth (p=0.06) and among solutions (p=0.08) after 183 days of immersion. All solutions (distilled water, 1% sodium hypochlorite and 2% RC) caused alterations on the analyzed properties. Both immersion protocols caused alterations on the analyzed properties.

El objetivo del trabajo fue identificar las características físico-químicas y biolgicas en dos suelos superficiales fertilizados con nitrógeno y enmienda orgánica en el Alto Valle de Río Negro (huertos H1 y H2). En ambos huertos se aplicó fertilizante nitrogenado durante las temporadas 2008-2009 y 2009-2010 y en H2 se aplicó estiércol de pollo. Se extrajeron muestras de suelos en primavera y otoño y se determinó: carbono orgánico total, conductividad elctrica, cationes de intercambio, relación de adsorción de sodio y nitratos, respiración microbiana, carbono de la biomasa microbiana, actividad de la deshidrogenasa y el índice de mineralización. La concentración de carbono orgánico total, potasio y nitrógeno fueron adecuadas para la producción de pera. El comportamiento de las variables biolgicas fue diferente en los huertos. En H1 fueron mayores en primavera, en ambas temporadas y el índice de mineralización fue ligeramente superior a 1 en otoño, indicando equilibrio entre la mineralización y la humificación del carbono. En H2 las mediciones biolgicas fueron similares entre las estaciones como consecuencia de realizar fertilización nitrogenada (N) en primavera y en otoño. La enmienda orgánica no reflejó un aumento de la actividad biolgica en primavera. La actividad microbiana y enzimática en H1 y H2 fue sensible a los cambios que ocurrieron en los suelos.

In angiosperms, the functional enucleate sieve tube system of the phloem appears to be maintained by the surrounding companion cells. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that polypeptides present within the phloem sap traffic cell to cell from the companion cells, where they are synthesized, into the sieve tube via plasmodesmata. Coinjection of fluorescently labeled dextrans along with size-fractionated Cucurbita maxima phloem proteins, ranging in size from 10 to 200 kDa, as well as injection of individual fluorescently labeled phloem proteins, provided unambiguous evidence that these proteins have the capacity to interact with mesophyll plasmodesmata in cucurbit cotyledons to induce an increase in size exclusion limit and traffic cell to cell. Plasmodesmal size exclusion limit increased to greater than 20 kDa, but less than 40 kDa, irrespective of the size of the injected protein, indicating that partial protein unfolding may be a requirement for transport. A threshold concentration in the 20–100 nM range was required for cell-to-cell transport indicating that phloem proteins have a high affinity for the mesophyll plasmodesmal binding site(s). Parallel experiments with glutaredoxin and cystatin, phloem sap proteins from Ricinus communis, established that these proteins can also traffic through cucurbit mesophyll plasmodesmata. These results are discussed in terms of the requirements for regulated protein trafficking between companion cells and the sieve tube system. As the threshold value for plasmodesmal transport of phloem sap proteins falls within the same range as many plant hormones, the possibility is discussed that some of these proteins may act as long-distance signaling molecules.

This study aimed to assess the genetic inheritance, determine the better DNA isolation protocol for this species and to identify molecular markers associated with the Wild Poinsettia (Euphorbia heterophylla L.) resistance ALS- and PROTOX- inhibiting herbicides and. The genetic inheritance of resistance was determined from crosses between E. heterophylla biotypes susceptible (S) and resistant (R), backcrosses and F2 generation. The complete dominance of resistance was confirmed with dose response curves. Ten adjusted methods for DNA isolation described in the literature were tested. The specific primers for ALS and PROTOX genes were designed from the consensus DNA sequence of these genes, obtained by aligning the gene sequences of the species Manihot esculenta and Ricinus communis L. Additionally, it was assessed the transferability of twenty SSR (simple sequence repeat) markers designed for Manihot esculenta, because among the species of Euphorbiaceae with more developed SSRs markers, because it is the closest relative phylogenetic species of E. heterophylla. Regarding genetic inheritance, the frequencies observed in the F1, F2, RCs and RCr did not differ significantly from the expected frequencies for a trait controlled by two dominant genes for multiple resistance and a single dominant gene for simple resistance to ALS- and PROTOX-inhibiting herbicides. The similar levels of resistance to dosage up to 2000 g i.a. ha-1 of fomesafen and dosage up to 800 g i.a. ha-1 of imazethapyr observed in F1 (heterozygous) and homozygous R biotype confirm the complete dominance of resistance to PROTOX- and ALS-inhibiting herbicides, respectively. The 0.2%BME protocol allowed the isolation of 7,083 ng μL-1 DNA, significantly (P=0.05) higher than other methods. Co-isolation of phenolic compounds was observed in FENOL and 3%BME+TB methods, but the addition of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP40) in the protocol extraction buffer 3%BME+TA solved this problem. The primers designed for ALS and PROTOX genes amplified but not showed no visible polymorphism in agarose gel between the S and R biotypes of E. heterophylla. Regarding the SSR transferability, ten markers were transferred to E. heterophylla, however, these six primers showed polymorphism among S and R biotypes.

Background: The capacity of European pear fruit (Pyrus communis L.) to ripen after harvest develops during the final stages of growth on the tree. The objective of this study was to characterize changes in 'Bartlett' pear fruit physico-chemical properties and transcription profiles during fruit maturation leading to attainment of ripening capacity. Results: The softening response of pear fruit held for 14days at 20°C after harvest depended on their maturity. We identified four maturity stages: S1-failed to soften and S2- displayed partial softening (with or without ET-ethylene treatment); S3 - able to soften following ET; and S4 - able to soften without ET. Illumina sequencing and Trinity assembly generated 68,010 unigenes (mean length of 911bp), of which 32.8% were annotated to the RefSeq plant database. Higher numbers of differentially expressed transcripts were recorded in the S3-S4 and S1-S2 transitions (2805 and 2505 unigenes, respectively) than in the S2-S3 transition (2037 unigenes). High expression of genes putatively encoding pectin degradation enzymes in the S1-S2 transition suggests pectic oligomers may be involved as early signals triggering the transition to responsiveness to ethylene in pear fruit. Moreover, the co-expression of these genes with Exps (Expansins) suggests their collaboration in modifying cell wall polysaccharide networks that are required for fruit growth. K-means cluster analysis revealed that auxin signaling associated transcripts were enriched in cluster K6 that showed the highest gene expression at S3. AP2/EREBP (APETALA 2/ethylene response element binding protein) and bHLH (basic helix-loop-helix) transcripts were enriched in all three transition S1-S2, S2-S3, and S3-S4. Several members of Aux/IAA (Auxin/indole-3-acetic acid), ARF (Auxin response factors), and WRKY appeared to play an important role in orchestrating the S2-S3 transition. Conclusions: We identified maturity stages associated with the development of ripening capacity in 'Bartlett' pear, and described the transcription profile of fruit at these stages. Our findings suggest that auxin is essential in regulating the transition of pear fruit from being ethylene-unresponsive (S2) to ethylene-responsive (S3), resulting in fruit softening. The transcriptome will be helpful for future studies about specific developmental pathways regulating the transition to ripening. © 2015 Nham et al.

Aim: To evaluate, in vitro, the effect of brushing with a Ricinus communis -based experimental toothpaste on color stability and surface roughness of artificial teeth. Methods: Ninety artificial teeth (maxillary central incisors) in different shades, light and dark (NatusDent Triple Pressing, Dentbras) were used. Initial color (Spectrophotometer Easyshade, VITA) and surface roughness (Rugosimeter Surfcorder SE 1700, Kosakalab) readouts were performed. After baseline measurements, samples were assigned to 10 groups (n=9) according to the artificial tooth shade and type of toothpaste used during the mechanical brushing test (Pepsodent, MAVTEC): Sorriso Dentes Brancos – SDB, Colgate Luminous White - CLW (Colgate-Palmolive), Close up White Now - CWN (Unilever), Trihydral - THL (Perland Pharmacos) and Ricinus communis - RCE (Experimental). After 29,200 cycles of brushing, corresponding to 2 years of brushing by a healthy individual, new color and roughness readouts of the specimens were performed. Data (before and after the tests) were statistically analyzed (2-way repeated measures ANOVA, Tukey, p&lt;0.05). Results: RCE toothpaste produced the greatest color stability for dark tooth shade and the second best color stability for light tooth shade. For surface roughness alteration, there was no difference (p>0.05) for any tested toothpaste regardless of tooth shade. Conclusions: The experimental Ricinus communis toothpaste did not cause color and surface roughness alteration in the artificial teeth, and it may be considered a suitable option for denture cleaning.

El tema del presente trabajo es: Dinámica de arvenses en el cultivo del pip ián ( Cucúrbita argyrosperma Huber ) bajo dos tipos de manejo. Finca el Plantel. Masaya, 2008. Manejado de manera convencional y orgánica establecido en la propiedad de la Universidad Nacional Agraria está ubicada en el km 42 ½ carretera Masaya - Tipitapa. El objetivo de la investigación fue de estudiar el comportamiento de las arvenses en el cultivo del pipián ( Cucúrbita argyrosperma Huber ) . Determinar la abundancia, cobertura, diversidad y biomasa de las arvenses en el cultivo con manejo convencional y org ánico, evaluar el efecto de la abundancia, cobertura, diversidad y biomasa de las arvenses sobre el rendimiento del cultivo del pipián y Comparar el efecto de los tipos de manejo en el cultivo del pipián sobre la abundancia, cobertura, diversidad y biomas a de las arvenses. Se establecieron dos parcelas experimentales. En una se estableció el cultivo del pipián manejo convencional y la otra parcela con manejo orgánico, de cada parcela se tomaron cuatro submuestras. En el manejo convencional se realizo la aplicación de productos sintéticos completo 15 - 15 - 15 y urea al 46%. Se hizo control de plagas según la incidencia de las mismas por medio de insecticidas sintéticos y el control de arvenses con herbicidas sintéticos. En el manejo orgánico se aplicó com post, humus de lombriz el cual abastecieron en un 45% de nitrógeno cada uno al cultivo y biofertilizante liquido a los 45 días después de la siembra aportando un 10% de nitrógeno restante. Las plagas y enfermedades se controlaron tomando en cuenta la inc idencia de las plagas y el umbral de daño de las mismas. Se aplicaron productos biolgicos y preparados naturales para el control de las mismas. Se realizaron controles mecánicos de las arvenses. En el manejo convencional se fertilizo con completo 15 – 1 5 – 15 aportando el 33% de nitrógeno y urea al 46% aportando el 67% de nitrógeno restante; para la siembra se utilizo el material genético llamada pescuezona. Las variables evaluadas en el cultivo fueron: rendimiento en el cultivo de pipián y en las arv enses: diversidad, abundancia, biomasa y porcentaje de cobertura. Entre los análisis se realizaron: prueba de T de student a la variable de cobertura y rendimiento. Los resultados encontrados son los siguientes: especies monocotiledóneas como: Cyperus rotu ndus L e Ixophorus unicetus (Presl)Schlecht y dicotiledóneas como Sida acuta Burn F, Physalis angulata L, Amaranthus spinosus L, Portulaca oleraceae , Ricinus communis L, Argemmone mexicana L y Euphorbia hirta L de las cuales las monocotiledóneas presentaron mayor número de individuos en ambos sistemas, Ixophorus unicetus Schlecht familia de las poaceas obtuvo mayor biomasa en ambos sistemas y el de menor fue Sida acuta Burn F, a la vez el tratamiento que presente la mayor cobertura a los 15 y 35 días después de la siembra fue el manejo orgánico . El rendimiento no presentó diferencia significativa en ambos tratamientos.

植物-微生物联合修复是利用微生物作为植物修复重金属土壤的一种强化手段,在弥补单纯植物及微生物修复技术不足的同时,利用植物和微生物的共存体系提高植物修复效率。本研究考察了向日葵(Helianthus annuus L.),芥菜(Brassica juncea L.),紫花苜蓿(Medicago sativa L.)和蓖麻(Ricinus communis L.)对Cd、Pb的富集特征,并筛选出向日葵作为富集植物;探讨了向日葵根系分泌物在重金属胁迫下的变化;通过重金属耐受菌株与向日葵的配伍对Cd、Pb污染土壤进行联合修复,结果如下: 液体培养实验结果表明,四种植物对Cd、Pb富集能力明显不同,其中向日葵对两种重金属的提取效果较好。四种植物对重金属的富集量随着浓度的增加而增加,而富集系数随重金属浓度的增加而减小,转移系数同重金属浓度及地上部/地下部生物量比值呈现一定的相关性;Cd、Pb复合处理中,一种重金属的存在会在不同程度上影响植物对另一种重金属的吸收;此外,不同植物及重金属处理中根际区域的酸碱度及氧化还原电位呈现负相关性。 砂培实验结果表明,向日葵对重金属的富集规律基本同液体培养实验相似。富集系数与重金属浓度和培养时间呈现线性相关关系。复合处理中,当Cd和Pb在适当浓度比例时,向日葵可以增加对某一重金属的吸收效率。向日葵的根系分泌物组成因重金属的存在而明显减少,根系分泌物中的草酸、酒石酸、苹果酸、柠檬酸、乙酸及丁二酸含量随着不同浓度Cd、Pb而发生不规则变化。 在以根系分泌物作为唯一营养来源筛选重金属耐受菌株实验中,细菌和真菌对Cd及Pb的耐性及吸附效率不同。总体上看,微生物生物量随重金属浓度升高而降低,而重金属吸附量随浓度升高而增加,重金属复合毒性也减少了微生物对单一重金属的吸收;另外,培养基中酸碱度因微生物种类及重金属浓度而有所差异。 将筛选出的优势微生物与向日葵配伍处理Cd、Pb污染土壤的实验中,由于Cd、Pb污染模式及菌株种类的不同,微生物对向日葵吸收重金属的强化效果呈现很大差异,其中真菌对植物吸收重金属的强化能力较细菌强;同时,根系分泌物中6种有机酸的含量在不同处理中变化较大;在处理单一Cd或Pb污染的时候选用菌株B1、F1或混合菌B1+B2、F1+F2、B2+F1、B1+F2与向日葵配伍修复的效果较好;混合菌F1+F2、B1+F2、B2+F1的添加能较好的强化Cd、Pb复合污染中向日葵吸收重金属的能力。

A demanda de recursos energéticos pelos sistemas de produção, aliada à escassez dos combustíveis fósseis, tem motivado a produção do Biodiesel, que é um combustível obtido de fontes renováveis. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar dois ensaios: o primeiro dinâmico, para avaliar o desempenho operacional utilizando como parâmetro o consumo de combustível, e o segundo, estático, para mensurar a opacidade da fumaça (material particulado) do motor de um trator agrícola, operando com diesel metropolitano e interior misturados ao Biodiesel de mamona, em sete proporções. O trabalho foi conduzido no Departamento de Engenharia Rural da UNESP/Jaboticabal - SP. Os resultados mostraram que o tipo de diesel influenciou no consumo de combustível e na opacidade da fumaça, sendo o diesel metropolitano de melhor qualidade; observou-se, também, que à medida que a proporção de Biodiesel aumentou, o mesmo ocorreu para o consumo de combustível; entretanto, a opacidade da fumaça reduziu com o acréscimo de Biodiesel até B75.

The aim was to study the efficiency of electrical conductivity test in evaluating the quality of castor seeds. Emergence of seedlings was evaluated in the field, with five seed lots of cv. AL Guarany 2002. The seeds were submitted to the following tests: germination; first count of germination; accelerated aging (45 degrees C by 24 to 100% UR), emergence of seedlings in the field, rate of speed of development of seedlings and electrical conductivity, testing the periods (2, 4, 6, 8 and 24 hours) and the number of seeds (25,50 and 75) in 75ml of distilled water conditioning to 25 degrees C. A completely randomized design was used. The averages were compared by the Tukey test at 5%. The mean laboratory and field test data were correlated. Electrical conductivity test for 4 hours with 25 seeds and 6 hours with 50 seeds, and the rate of speed emergency proved efficient in the selection of lots vigor by providing information equivalent to the emergence of seedlings in the field.
