In Bermingham v Priest [2002] QSC 057 jones J considered the position of persons seeking to claim damages where the Motor Accident Insurance Act 1994 applies prior to its amendment by the Motor Accident Insurance Amendment Act 2000, and where proceedings are brought close to expiration of the statutory limitation period.

Fe-57 Mössbauer and Mo K-EXAFS Investigations of MoxFe3-xO4, an Interesting Mixed-Valent Oxide System

Ferrites of the formula MoxFe3-xO4, prepared by a soft-chemistry route, show mixed valence states of both iron and molybdenum cations. Mössbauer studies show that Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions are present on both the A and B sites, giving Fe an average oxidation state between 2+ and 3+. Molybdenum is present in the 3+ and the 4+ states on the B sites. The presence of Mo in the 3+ state has been established by determining the Mo3+-O distance (2.2 Å), for the first time, by Mo K-EXAFS. The mixed valence of Fe on both the A and B sites and of Mo on the B sites is responsible for the fast electron transfer between the cations. All the Mössbauer parameters including the line width show a marked change at a composition (x ? 0.3) above which the concentration of Fe2+A increases rapidly.

Mossbauer study of La1-xCaxMn1-y (57)FeyO(3) with x = 0, 0.25; y=0.01

Temperature dependent Mossbauer measurements are done on the samples of La1- xCaxMn1-y (FeyO3)-Fe-57 with x=0 and 0.25, and y=0.01. With decreasing temperature, the specimen with x=0.25 shows a paramagnetic to ferromagnetic transition around 175 K. In the specimen x=0.0, the temperature dependence of both the center shift (delta) and the recoilless fraction (f) can be fitted very well with the Debye theory with a theta(D)=320+/-50 K. But for the specimens with x=0.25, f and delta show distinct deviations from the Debye behavior in the temperature range in which the resistivity shows a sharp decrease. Dips observed in both the f and delta around the transition temperature suggest that the Jahn-Teller distortion observed in these systems is dynamic in nature.

HLA-B*57 and Gender Influence the Occurrence of Tuberculosis in HIV Infected People of South India

Background. Substantial evidence exists for HLA and other host genetic factors being determinants of susceptibility or resistance to infectious diseases. However, very little information is available on the role of host genetic factors in HIV-TB coinfection. Hence, a longitudinal study was undertaken to investigate HLA associations in a cohort of HIV seropositive individuals with and without TB in Bangalore, South India. Methods. A cohort of 238 HIV seropositive subjects were typed for HLA-A, B, and DR by PCR-SSP and followed up for 5 years or till manifestation of Tuberculosis. HLA data of 682 HIV Negative healthy renal donors was used as control. Results. The ratio of males and females in HIV cohort was comparable (50.4% and 49.6%). But the incidence of TB was markedly lower in females (12.6%,) than males (25.6%). Further, HLA-B* 57 frequency in HIV cohort was significantly higher among females without TB (21.6%, 19/88) than males (1.7%, 1/59); P = 0.0046; OR = 38. CD4 counts also were higher among females in this cohort. Conclusion. This study suggests that HIV positive women with HLA-B* 57 have less occurrence of TB as compared to males.

Efecto de la fertilización nitrogenada y la cantidad de semilla de siembra sobre las características del sorgo granífero E-57

Debido a que las cantidades de semilla por manzana así como las cantidades fertilizante afectan de modo diferente a las variedades de sorgo granifero, se planifico el presente trabajo con el fin de obtener información acerca del efecto de cinco cantidades de semilla por hectárea y cinco niveles de nitrógeno en diferentes características del sorgo granifero E-57, bajo las condiciones de suelo de "Los Altos", Masaya. Los niveles de nitrógeno estudiadas fueron 70, 87, 5, 105, 122.5 y 140 kilogramos por hectárea. Las densidades de siembra fueron 16, 17.75, 19.5, 21.5 y 23 kilogramos de semilla por hectárea. El diseño experimental que se uso fue el de cuadrado doble con distribución de tratamientos en el campo de bloques completos al azar con cuatro repeticiones, conteniendo cada bloque 13 tratamientos. Cada parcela consto de 4 surcos de 6 metros de largo separados entre si 0.35 metros. La fuente de nitrógeno usada fue Urea 46 por ciento , la variedad usada fue E-57, los resultados del experimento pueden resumirse asi: 1). Los porcentajes de germinacion fueron sensiblemente bajos. 2). La enfermedad causada por el patógeno Helminthosporium sp. no causo ningún efecto en la producción de grano. 3) El numero de días a flor y la altura de plantas no fueron afectados por ningún tratamiento. 4) La variedad Dekalb E-57 resulto ser resistente al acame. 5) El numero de panojas a la cosecha se incrementa a medida que aumenta la densidad de siembra, hasta el limite de 21.5 kilogramos por hectárea en el cual comienza a decrecer. 6) Los niveles óptimos de los factores estudiados para obtener el mayor rendimiento de grano y beneficio, son las de 105 kilogramos de nitrógeno y 19.5 kilogramos de semilla por hectarea. Con semilla de 72 por ciento de germinacion.

激光熔覆大厚度Fe_(57)Co_8Ni_8Zr_(10)Si_4B_(13)非晶表层及其微结构研究

利用激光熔覆制备出1.2mm厚的Fe_(57)Co_8Ni_8Zr_(10)Si_4B_(13)大厚度非晶表层。用XRD,ES,TEM,DSC及硬度对获得的非晶表层进行了多种分析，研究了非晶合金表层的微结构与非晶形成能力。初步探讨了大厚度非晶表层的形式机制。
